Looks like Jeremy has made his biggest gaf yet. Apparently he's been dropped by Amazon.

Only when his contract runs out. He doesn't need the money anymore. Besides, there's no such thing as bad publicity when money is concerned.

Ouch.

.."So I picked up a copy of The Sun to see what all the fuss was about.... I knew what had happened straight away. I’d been thinking of a scene in Games Of Thrones, but I’d forgotten to mention this. So it looked like I was actually calling for revolting violence to rain down on Meghan’s head. I was very angry with myself because in all those controversial days on Top Gear, when I was accused of all sorts of things, it was very rarely sexism."

I’m sure another streaming company will pick him up…

P.S.

I can already tell this thread will end up going off the rails.

Might be a good idea to close it now. 😂👍

This is the bloke who did something foolish which got himself “fired” from that million pound a year BBC contract.

Which enabled him to pick up a million pound a year contract for a couple of weeks work hosting Millionaire quizzes on ITV. For five years.

And that £10 million a year Amazon contract.

While still also writing a weekly Sunday Times Column which could be worth half a million a year.

Such a shame that he “got fired.”

But he does have that Farm to keep him entertained. And shield his family from inheritance tax.

And he still does high fee appearance gigs.

I suppose he could always “spend more time with his family / tall leggy blonde.”

I wonder how he’ll pass his days off ?

I read an article on the 'offensive' comment, reported on the BBC, bashing Clarkson and saying how appalling he was, with undertones suggesting he was sexist and raciest.
When I got to the quote, I immediately thought I can see Jeremy's intended angle of humour in this; obviously a parody of the Queen's walk of shame in Game of Thrones, and that the only people who couldn't see this were people who haven't seen GoT (which admittedly, could be a lot of people).
I also balanced this against the sometimes quoted posturing Jeremy gives about his own writing, and I remember a Top Gear when he had, I think two Jags Prescott on, or maybe spin doctor Alistair Campbell for Star in a Reasonably Priced Car, where he said "come on John/Alistair, you don't believe what you say any more than I believe what I write!".

I think to take what is (and I can't prove what was in Jeremy's brain at the time) his consistent approach to mick-taking and not in any way seriously meaning or believing what he says, and say in this instance it is the height of *insert unbearable offence caused*, the outcry might be a bit of an over-reaction in my personal view. Yes, everyone has a right to be offended, but no doubt a minority of the offended are probably actually and really experiencing the hated Jeremy is supposed to have harbored towards Megs (according to his column as if it were a statement of fact), when there was no such hatred on Jeremy's side in the first place. How ironic.

Jeremy just says what a lot of people think (and are often too afraid to say or write).

The above may be true in respect of many of Jeremy Clarkson's comments in general.

However, on this specific occasion, he says that his comment was unintentional (in that he omitted an important reference to Game of Thrones).

Which means that it doesn't quite fall in that category (assuming you accept his explanation and apology)?

I suspect that the reaction is as much about Jeremy Clarkson repeatedly overstepping the line as it is about this specific comment.

The specific comment was horrific!!
If he is saying what a lot of you think but are too scared to come out with it then there is no hope.
The comments are indefensible.

Could be worse if he'd stayed in Romania !;)

Plenty of right-on comedians have said some awful things about other people and got away with it.

Being a bully got him sacked years ago. For that he was a git.

For the Smegan comments he hasn't lost any of my appreciation.
I think he is still saleable to the entertainment world.

To be honest i think it very much depends how you interpret his comments. Yes i can see it would be easy to take offense. However, i view JC as more akin to a comedian in the content he puts out - and i take his words in that way. If we have to interpret his words (and everyones words) literally then i think we as a society come unstuck - because that would erase most chance of humour/comedy. There is a line of course, and certain taboo areas but i don't believe JC crossed the line on this occasion. I admit though ive not studied the whole thing in detail. My initial thought on reading his comment was that it was a joking reference to how people were treated say in the Middle Ages. I don't watch Game of Thrones but i know enough about Medieval history to understand this kind of thing happened. And not for one minute did i interpret his words literally.

Personally i think we are in phase where the default is to immediately be offended without having the capacity to take a step back and really try to understand the true intent of what has been said.

Me too. It was a joke in poor taste, nothing more.
