Well I've took the plunge & ordered Bilt Hamber clay bar after telling people that blue-tac is just as good, i shall see for my self if it is better or just as good.

Clay bars test | Auto Express

Going away soon for 3weeks so going to give the old girl a 'good seeing too' ;)

I bought a Meguiars kit this week, wish I'd read the Auto express test first!
hey ho,got a nice cloth, wax and detail spray though

Having used both, I can't see or feel any difference. Both work well.

The drawback with blu tac is it keeps getting borrowed for other duties:)

I always use Bilt Hamber as it uses only water as a lubricant and is so easy to use with a spray gun in the other hand.

Can I assume they said that the blutac was just as good?

Try doing it with your finger and water, press hard with your finger, you will get the same result, it’s just intense cleaning, inch by inch, of a small area.

The clay bar lets you see the dirt and make you think it has some kind of magic properties but the results are no better than blue tac or your finger, I tried both… I think the clay bar and blue tac are one in the same… except maybe the colour.

I found clay (Megs kit here) to be way better than BluTac. Try using the latter over an affected area (the sills behind the front wheels?) until it lifts no more, then go over again with the clay.

I predict you'll get a lot more off.

Where have you guys bought the Bilt hamber clay bar? Can you get it from halfords or do you have to order online?

I've had the clay in my boot for a year now, was going ti do it last summer on holiday and never had the time..

Mine was on line around £9

good thing with the Bilt hamber is you can use water to put in on and it a bigger bar price per size than most.

Bought mine from the Bilt Hamber website

Clay Bar Products | Protect Paintwork With Clay Bars - Bilt-Hamber UK

It's difficult to get the ingrained particles off the car with blutac or your finger - I'm talking about metal flakes that embed themselves in the paint. Used it on my SMax last year and it brought the car back to life (it had 100k miles or so on it!)

I've just used the clay bar on my bonnet of the SL at the weekend - the car was clean and waxed, but must have had overspray on from the recent spray job. Massive difference once done!

Conclusion

As a strong believer in using Blue-tac i thought i would put it to the test with Bilt-Hamber(soft), although both products did the same work i found the BH was a lot easier to use being softer & not cracking, the small tar particles were coming off a lot easier than the BT & it felt more of a quality product to use on the now gleaming paintwork. The BT came in a 200g bar which i cut in half & felt very comfortable to hold, over all very pleased with the £12 i spent & highly recommend it, & I'm a fussy ****** :thumb:

ps. It worked brilliant with water!
