Does anyone know of pads which clean discs? As I understand, they are a bit like brake pads but are designed to clean up discs.

It may be a silly question, but why do you want pads that clean the disc's, the idea is that pads stop the car not clean the disc's. If they did persumably the must be abrasive and then would wear the disc's more than they usually do.

They do exist but why would you want them. They are available at MB. There is a cheaper option. Emery cloth and elbow grease.

Are they to clean up the scores caused by trapped stones and the like?

It's not such a bad idea if that it the case - although I don't think I would bother.

That type of thing really bugs me  , the scores btw not your post ;) .

I used one of those wire brushes, the ones with brass bristles. I just worked on the opposite side of the disc to the caliper so that bits of rubbish didnt get trapped between the pads and the disc. This was to get rid of the rust on the periphery, I think scoring would have to be machined out somehow.

Portzy.

With the rear brake disc that only get 28% of the braking preasure it is best to do a few hard stops to clean the rear disc now an then, I am a light braker, when I left me V70R at Stanstead for 3 weeks after driving through ice and salt the rear disc had split when I returned to the car. The split was not across the disc, they had seperated like making 2 plates out of one
