The clear coat on the panoramic sunroof of our W169 is looking a bit tatty and sorry for itself. It looks to me that a probable combination of sun/heat and wind has caused the clear coat to flake and come away – it only seems to be on the trailing edge of each louvered panel.

I’d like to get it repaired. Does anyone know if this is possible? What are these panels made from glass or plastic?

I’ve cautiously had a go at polishing the edges of the remaining clear coat with Autoglym scratch remover and it does remove (or polish out) the loose clear coat without causing any noticeable damage to the surface of the glass/plastic. I’m wondering if the best approach would be to somehow remove all the remaining clear coat and get the panels re-sprayed…but I’m a bit too chicken to try this with fine grit paper on a see through surface! Anyone know if there is there a better approach?...Or a more effective product...It'll take an age with that Autoglym stuff!...
