I'm asking this question just out of interest, inspired by some other recent threads on this topic. I am a curious man .
The following pdf (over 7MB chaps!) describes the climate control of my car very well:

I'm in particular interested in the diagram on page 30.
Here's the question: the diagram strongly suggests that the coolant circuit that feeds the heater core is separate from the main cooling circuit. Is that a correct interpretation?
It's remarkable how quickly the system starts to produce hot air. If I drive out of the garage, by the time I get to the next street, warm air is already blowing from the vents. Very nice obviously.
