Hi all,
some advice please, I have my wife's CLK 200 going in for a service next week, all good but I can hear a rattle coming from the front of the engine, I suspected the timing belt tensioner, so I removed the black plastic housing from this area to reveal a plug/sensor fitted into block, it appears this unit can be removed as it is fixed to a circular plate by 4/5 bolts. It is from this unit the rattle is coming from.
When revs are increased the rattle goes away but returns at idle, I remember this being discussed before but I can't find the thread...!!! If memory serves the advice given was that it is a common fault and easy remedied by replacing just the unit, and if I recall correctly it was called a cam oiler sensor...??
Can anyone tell me what it could be, if it is the timing chain do I purchase a complete kit, or is it a matter of changing the sensor tensioner thingy only?
Any help welcome, I am not familiar with this engine and prefer to keep the car properly serviced.
Many thanks guys
