I kept meaning to take the 275/30/19 rears and 235/35/19 fronts off and put the standard wheels on to see if that improved it even more.
On a typical day the reading would be between 52-56mpg.

Auto. My brother has a '01 203 220cdi with a 6 spd manual, Although his was always slightly better on fuel, the biggest difference was always seen round town, with them being pretty equal on the motorway.
As a side note, my wife consistently gets 20% worse than me in whichever car we happen to drive. Anyone else experience that?
Yep, my wife has a lead foot, not purposely, she just doesn't understand what I'm talking about when I try to explain. In her MX5 I average 33-35mpg, she averages 25-26, I gave up a long time ago in the interest of self and marriage preservation
Found the relative mpg figures on the internet which prompted me to go for the 270 over the 220 and later read the better mpg being mostly down to larger engine being in a sweet spot for motorway speeds doing about 2000 rpm at 70 but the 220 having to work a bit harder at that speed. Best I've ever seen is 72 mpg at average speed of 49 mph on a 70-mile journey on a warm summers evening down the billiard table flat A1 from Yorkshire to Lincolnshire. Now temperature has dropped and have winter tyres on struggling to get 55mpg even on long motorway runs, but hey, that's still pretty impressive in my opinion.
