Hello from a new member.....

I am looking at getting a CLK500 Cab about 2004 or an SLK350 both in auto as I have a dodgy left foot and end up in traffic in my commute. Also fancy a bit of fun so thought SLK350 but then thought mmmm CLK500 for the noise and bit more practicality. What would be your choice???

Also I know I should not ask but what is the real world MPG of the CLK500 out of interest, not that I think it would put me off.

Thanks in advance

Mike

CLK500...... average 23 mpg and on a run 30mpg..... nail it like a loon 15mpg..... The V8 sound is addictive.. also 4 seater rag top....

CLK will be much faster, more fun, and much nicer noise. and more practical as you said.

CLK more class/ more grown up (& more seats)

I was looking at CLK500 cab prices today on autotrader.

You can pick up a nice facelifted one with lots of toys for very very little money. You can even get a CLK55 cab fairly cheap now aswell!

The CLK63 black series are also coming down........Tudu - Take note;)

Gotta love the V8 CLK !

Definitely the CLK500.

CLK with the proviso that you don't end up with a rusty one. AFAIK the SLK suffers much less in that respect (if at all).

Depends what you want.

CLK is more of a cruiser (a quick one, mind, with a nice-sound-track)

SLK is more sporty all round.

You'll have to try them both and see what fits the bill best for you.

All CLK500's are W209 which should be fine rust wise. It was the earlier W208's that had the problem:(

So it seems a resounding yes vote for the CLK, any problems I should look out for when buying?

Yes. Get a facelifted one if at all possible. They are MOST based rather than D2B and they drive alot better. This will be 54 plate onwards but check the car to be sure as there may be a few 54 plated D2B cars around. Easiest way to check is; Does it have Audio20/comand APS or Audio10/Comand 2?

FSH is highly desirable. Parktronic is a must in a CLK. Phone pre-wire is a must if you ever think you will use a phone in the car. Its a costly retrofit. Heated seats are lovely. Comand and ipod etc can be retrofitted and in fact you can drive a hard bargain on a car that doesnt have comand already.

There are some nice fully loaded ones on autotrader at present.

You need to decide what you want from the car you go for - do you need four seats, do you want a hard or soft top?

The SLK and CLK are very different cars. You need to try them both imho.

If you can live with the limited space of an SLK, they are excellent cars, particularly the 7 gear auto. Fast well built and fun.

Look at both:)
