I've had the CLK for about 2 months now. The thing that surprised me the most is how frugal it is for a V8! Is this normal? I averaged about 22mpg over about 1000 miles since I got it!

That is much better than my 4.0 V6 Navara which gets about 19mpg.

awieT

It's not that surprising - the CLK is a relatively sleek and compact car.

My SL500 uses less fuel than my VW MPV (2.8 litre V6). They both weigh about the same, but the SL is much more streamlined so uses significantly less fuel when cruising (less drag).

I get around 23MPG which suprises a lot of people and have managed 29 on one occasion. Most of the time the engine is at near idle and even when overtaking mine rarely breaks 3,000RPM. I really don't drive it how they intended...

Just SQUIRT & GO when you need to; but I do see over 5K sometimes.

I get about 18mpg around town and 30 to 32 mpg on motorways...
Not bad at all imo.

Hi there - I've had my CLK 500 for about 5 months - the overall average is 23.5mpg - I don't make any particular effort to drive it economically On a motorway run it easily gets up to 28mpg - which as others have said is pretty amazing for a 5.0 V8.

In the distant past I has a couple of Jags - a V12 5.3 and that managed around 12mpg and a newer 3.2 XJ6 which returned apx 23 mpg.

Before I bought it I checked the specs and the average mpg was quoted at 25 so I'm very pleased to getting closed to that - I did consider a CLK 320 but as the average mpg was only a bit better (29mpg I think) I decided to go for the 500 - might as well enjoy ourselves before we are taxed off the roads!

My CLK55 AMG averages 22mpg too, driving in urban areas with the odd motorway drive (got it to about 35mpg on the A3 iirc). And I try to drive as the makers intended. :)

I have just done over 10k miles now and averaged 25.7mpg. I think that as the engine gets looser the mpg is getting better. Recent trip to London 32.5mpg. Last car was a Porsche Boxster S and that was averaging 26.5mpg but needed to be fed Shell Optimax or similar. So fuel costs are actually cheaper on the Merc:)

After 4 months of ownership My CLK55 Cab has returned 19.1 mpg on average. Thats with Mixed A roads, and town driving. Not as bad as i thought it would be.

Yup, I can also confirm my CLK55 does around 30mpg on the motorway (~9-10 km/l). Long live the V8, eh?

I was certainly told by VW that the petrol V6 in my Sharan needed approx. 10k miles to fully loosen up.

Had a trip to wales this weekend-29.8mpg according to trip computer, excellent! Normally around town is 20.5mpg. :bannana:
