:( Its a sad day , i have only had my car 6 days and its broke :(

The good new is the guy from the local specilist drove around to look at it with his handy lap top thing and said it was the crank postion sensor.
About £90 to put right so not too bad.

Is this a common problem ?

I would say on the 112 and 113 engine its very common.

so you chose a specialist after all glad to here it wasn't expensive.

What were the symptoms? Did it just churn and wouldn't fire? I had this last week, tried about five times and it just wouldn't fire. Got out, lifted the bonnet, looked busy :) , bonnet down, tried again and it fired and has been fine since.

This was outside Krispy Kreme, so maybe 'Christine' was sending me a message :D

there is also another specialist in bootle just past the scrappy by the deutche motor parts though the garage is always full of at least 10MB cars at any one time

i would get the codes read as you wouldnt want to be stranded somewhere!...

Had been out no problems, came to go home car still quite warm turned the key, it just turned over like there was no fuel.
When the guy came he found the problemand said that when it cools down a bit it would start. 15 mins later it did but the engine management light was on then so i left the car in work.

Put the car in this morning, picked it up a couple of hours later all done.
Engine light is now out and the car drives great again.
Thanks to the guys at Prestige Frenz.

The are a few copies around, and those sold by GSF and Euro have been known to have a short life. Around £70 from Bosch are the best bet

When a crank sensor faults they seldom leave a code unles they are unplugged.

Mine was the exception to the rule and had 8 stored codes. Like terminator happened just after I got the car, luckily did it to a MB tech at the dealers while getting a second key (so they read the codes for free). Unluckily it died on the way home, so car was AA'ed back to the garage it came from (who couldn't of been more helpful/apologetic - obviously they had no way of knowing it was about to go).

I wonder is there a pattern of sensors going when the car has been laid up for a while (mine was on the forecourt for 3-4 months).
