A140 - getting lifts from her
Thinking of taking the plunge and getting a CLK 230k cab for the missus (ML 320 is costing £50 a week on fuel!!!!!!!!!) - But have a little nipper that needs her pram everywhere...............

What’s the boot space like, would it fit a pram in or even a pram and the weeks shopping.

Any other pointers welcome too ;)

Budget circa 15k ish

This is like De Ja Vu. I had an ML which cost the earth to run and swapped it for a CLK320

To answer your question, yes just about with the roof up, no way with it down! You will get some shopping in it but not a weeks family shopping and a push chair!

Go and see one at a dealer somewhere and take a look. When the roof is up the loadspace divider in the boot, retracts giving much more space.

Have to say though, getting a small child in and out with the roof down is easier than in anything else I've ever driven!

Oh and always always always get one (a cabrio) with parktronic, its a must. You can see bugger all when reversing with the hood up.
Good luck

I wish I could get a Black CLK230K Cabrio. :(

If the CLK cabrio is anything like the W124 cabriolet, the boot space is okay just for 3 medium soft bags. I also have a wind deflector in situ in the boot. This takes up a lot of space though.

Oh and another thing. Get the 320. Its a whole lot smoother than the 200 or 230 and returns not much different MPG to the 230. I have found that although my ML and CLK share the same engine, the CLK is much much more economical. 20mpg around town for the ML versus 25 around town for the CLK. I've yet to take the CLK on a long run but doubtless I will get better than the 29MPG I once saw with the ML (more like 24 on a run in the ML).

There are a lot of CLK cabrio's around for sale at the moment. My advice would be to get as newer one with a little miles on the clock as you can afford.

They are fun and hold their value better than most other cars on the road. Get one and enjoy it.

Good luck

P.S see my earlier post reference boot space and must have's!

The good thing about the CLK is that when the hood is up you can put the guard away and the boot space becomes almost as large as the coupe.... (unlike the 124, sl etc)

Therefore, yes, ideal choice if you have a pram... Just cant have the roof down and the baby with you at the same time!

Cheers Alfie - off to MB to test drive a couple, will be a toss up between 230 and 320 though not too concerned about power loss etc...

Good luck, let us know how you get on.
