Just had the aircon regassed which didn’t seem to come back to 100% efficiency so I had been looking for reasons why this might be .
Looking at the slots between the 2 temp knobs I could see something blocking a couple of them , I blew into the slots and the obstruction seemed to move but not disappear.
I got the Henry out and hoovered it and a big blob of fluff came out through the vent slots .
Im guessing it’s a temperature sensor behind there ?
The point is if you have a convertible , maybe spend 5 minutes clearing it .

Not just convertible. All cars have a cabin temperaure sensor somewhere. Can of air duster is the ideal way to clean them

That is my understanding but anyone know where it is on my missus's 2007 SLK280 (R171)? The AC works correctly most of the time but at odd times it needs to be set to fully cold or fully hot to get it to do anything as if it isn't detecting the cabin temperature. My iCarsoft will show me the settings for everything else but not for a cabin temp sensor or anything else that looks like it should display it. For instance, on my Range Rover, it is referred to as the aspirator so what is it called on a Mercedes?

On my SL (I appreciate it's a different car) the sensor is near and below the steering wheel and is about 30mm across and looks like it might be a microphone grille. Hth

Thanks, that's helpful. I'll have a look when she gets home from work. On my car it is in the centre of the dash so I assumed it would be somewhere similar.

Here's a picture on the R231 so you know what it might look like....
