I have now decided to purchase a CLK convertible for about £8,000. hope I can get a 2007 350 or slightly smaller engine one for that money once my Jag Sovereign sells on ebay.
Any comments about this car would be most welcome.

Thank you for the response on the ClS but have now decided a CLK would suit me better.

Good choice Reggie i should have got one earlier in life too i dont think you will be disappointed.

Tony.

For me no, but they hold thier value better than a coupe. Many do love thier convertables.

Facelift A209 is a well sorted car.
Go for the AMG kitted ones if possible as they look so much better and have a couple of extra toys.
M271 and 272 engines have both had problems so make sure you get a good service history.
I love mine to bits. :)

What extra toys do you have Ted?

Tony.

Amg comes with body kit, AMG wheels, lowered body, fancy front callipers, comfort seats with blow up bolsters and cushions - the most comfortable seats I've ever had, flappy paddles, sculpted steering wheel, sports pedals (aluminium with rubber 'dot' inserts. I think the only other things I have are heated leather seats, phone prewire and comand.

Oh, and get the wind deflector if you can. Totally breeze free top down motoring. Even gets the Mrs Ted seal of approval :)

Well, I'd certainly have Ted's one!

Superb...

CLK - one of the best value, most under rated second hand deals on the market.....IMHO. I've had three, starting with a 200, graduating to a 320 an now with a 500 - all convertibles. Apart from coil packs on the 320, I [touch wood] haven't had a problem with any of them. Had the 500 for 3 years now and can not see a better car for the money. 4 seats [3 actually as I'm 6'6" so the one behind the driver is o/s...!] I 'can' get 37mpg and it is as fast as I [personally] would ever want a car to be. I spent a bit on the suspension to cut the roll and firm it up a bit & improved the ICE by 300%, so I'm thinking of breaking with a lifelong habit of changing cars every 3 years. Over the past 9 years I have 'lost' £6k in depreciation.

It looks great when it's clean too......

Brother bought one of Jay down in Nuneaton.

Loves it, had it two years plus now. He rates them highly. His is a 230.

I've had 3 , never had any troubles with any of them ... Only changed to the new e class cab , then didn't need the 4 seats so now have an SL , if I needed the 4 seats I'd go find another CLK rather than an E class , wasn't over joyed with the E class , the CLK was IMO a better drive by far

Clk500 the way to go

Hi

I've had mine for over two years, a 500 and it's been faultless. Really smooth to drive, and fast when you want it to be. I don't do much mileage so fuel costs don't bother me, 17mpg round town about 25 to 30 (if your very light footed) on a run. The roof needs cleaning and sealing, I do mine in spring and autumn (just reminded myself to do it) I did use the MB approved stuff, but use autoglym now. My son is a Technican for MB and thinks these are good cars, as they are pretty simple, not much complicated to go that wrong. Buy and enjoy!

I love mine...
Want a 63 now!!! :-D
You can get a proper MB wind deflector 2nd hand on eBay for around £150, and you do need it.

My wife's got a 2003 320 Avantgarde convertible, barely cared for, rust free, repairs bearable, now on 140000 miles, still drives like dream.
Nuff said.

Q2 2003 build was the point where all 209s had galvanised panels, so much better chance of being rust free from that point onwards.
