CLK Elegance V Avantgarde

Alfie said:
I'd never go for an avantgarde myself. Interiors were horrid compared to the Elegance trim especially those ghastly two colour seat combinations
I wouldn't go for Elegance trim, much prefer Sport/AG. Also like the duo colour combos (although mine is all anthracite).

But that's why there's a choice ;)

only just spotted this thread..

i was not a real big merc fan but i kept spotting these smooth coupes around
i never took much notice until i decided to treat myselt to an early 40th present
i looked at a few saloons, lexus is200 (yuk) and some coupes, & settled for an a/g w208 230 with amg alloys etc, my only regret was not getting the v6 for smoothness , i did the factory collection & wouldnt part with it for the world, the only upgrade would be the brakes which are very poor for such a large/heavy car
the only downside is the steering a bit vauge on all but smooth roads.

i have a spare brochure if you would like it .

I have no complaints with the ride, but the 6 disc CD changer in the boot can't cope with the A/G suspension, and jumps now and again over poor surfaces or drain covers!!

So, an Elegance - v- Avantgarde arguement.

Well, what's wrong with Classic!!

(Only joking, it's Avantgarde for me)

Must be something up with your CD changer. My 2001 CLK Avantgarde has the 17" AMG wheel option as well and the ride can be pretty firm at times, but never once has the CD skipped or stopped.

I agree with a lot of the posts on here, it depends what you want from a car, if you want the ultra soft smooth ride of a merc then go for elegance, if you want something a bit sporty go for A/G, I have an AG and it also changed my opinion of the mark, personally, and this is only my taste, I dont like the colour of the wood in classic and elegance trim, I love the dark wood in mine and now only look for A/G. I can put up with the ride as my pevious car was an escort so however bad it is its an improvment. Did I also hear that the exhaust is different on an A/G so we get a slightly sportier note? maybe sombody can give me a W210 2.3 classic/elegance for a thrash and I can tell them he he.

As for skipping CD players the changer is stuck out quite far behind the rear axle which is the fulcrum so it may skip, move the changer as close to the centre of the car as possible, under a seat maybe? or get an indash changer or personally, get an MP3 head unit, then you never have to stop when you get bored of your collection and go to the boot to change it. You can fit 10 albums on 1 MP3 disc, so it takes a while to get through it all unless your a track skipper like me. (apologies to anybody who has to endure that, I know how annoying it is when somebody does it to the telly) btw I dont sell MP3 head units or anything, I just think they are a great idea and go 1 step closer to PC`s in cars, some people use them already for music but with new motherboard formats being released which are much smaller I can see cars being run by PC`s in 10 years, but maybe thats another thread.....

Are you using genuine silvers or CDR's?

Certainly isn't an issue in my Cab and wasn't an issue in my Coupe, and we've got some pretty rough roads in rural Fife.

Different exhaust was a porkie (amongs others) told to me by an inexperienced MB salesman when I recently bought a CLK.

I have since complained about some of the things he told us...he even told us that MB have vibrating beds fitted in their service workshops so they can trace even the smallest squeak!!

Different exhaust is a porkie.

Saying the suspension is the same on both models is a porkie.

The road simulator to test for rattles/squeeks is true however......(not at all dealers though)

The only time my Comand played up was when it had a CDR in it.

The elegance can have the same suspension as the Avantgarde as it was a no cost option on the Elegance. The Avantgarde however cannot have the same suspension as the elegance as it was not offered as an option. So strictly speaking the suspension could be the same but not necessarily so.
