Evening everyone!

Anyone on here know anything about these? Am referring to the models made 98-99.
Any issues?
Prices?

Sorry for not being too specific but am in an interesting position with regards to these cars and wanted to know more!

I'll let you all know a little later....but in the meanwhile, any info would be gratefully received!

Ta

Make sure the hood works properly .... above all !!

It will be a pre-facelift at this age.

Usual rust issues , arches , bootlid etc ...

I had a payout of £6.5k from the insurance company for mine when it was written off. I expect you could get a good one for £6-7k.

Did i say make sure the hood works properly ?

lol - thanks Howard! Thought the hood might be a big factor. I have heard that generally they are mechanically excellent with the occasional electrical gremlin.

Would like as much info as poss before considering one!

Thanks again

Not specific to the cabriolet:

Check MAF sensor works OK, by testing for smooth rapid acceleration on kick-down.
Look for when the gearbox oil was last changed.
Check for play in the steering, as this may indicate worn track bushes. The bushes can not be separately replaced, you'll need the whole track rod unit, which is £180+VAT for the part from MB. (I only know this as I had this done only this week........thankfully a lot cheaper at Mercland)

these are now being sold as low as 4-5K.. you can get good cars for 6-7K now albeit early models..

They are generally solid.. hood issues can be very expensive but otherwise just the usual rust, maf sensors etc..

Firstly, thanks to everyone who has offered up advice - greatly appreciated!

Secondly, I now have pics of said vehicle - opinions please? I know some of the pics aren't fantastic but does give general idea of condition etc.

I'm not sure about the wheels - Brabus (genuine?) but in good condition with Dunlops fitted.

Any other guidance/advice/comments appreciated!

Thanks all

they look genuine... i think they suit... similar to the ones on my E500 but mine are split rims..

Must admit that I am a little bit unsure - I actually like my fairly non-descript but 'still make the car look good' AMG III's on my 270!

It looks like I really need to see the car 'in the flesh' to make my mind up!

I've got a nice set of 17 inch CLK alloys i'll swap you for those ;) got good tyres on them too !!

They are a 'feature' of the pre-facelift car ... you can facelift it pretty easily , the bottoms of the bumpers just clip off ...

With regards to the side skirts , it looks terrible if you spray the black underseal as it has a textured finish , you need to get a set of facelift side skirts.

Silversaloon did a great HOWTO on facelifting a CLK and you can get the parts pretty easily .

If you don't want to swap , i'll do you a good price for them ;)
