CLK350 / Range Rover P38
Hi Guys,

New to the forum, I've just acquired (for want of a better word) a 2005 CLK350 Convertible, which from reading up about them appears to be an early one.

I took it as part X against my M5, Its not something I had really considered before but I actually rather like it and the other half is besotted by it so it looks like its not going to be a quick turn around...

However we have a few electrical issues:

First is the analogue clock doesnt work, it appears stuck etc. From doing some reading it appears that its controlled via the comand system, am I correct? One forum I read did mention that the cable to it can come loose. Is the cluster easy to extract?

Second is the comand system I have, I'm assuming was factory fit as I have the manual for it etc. It has bluetooth, which although ive found where to "add" the phone I cant get it to connect to either of my Iphones. I'm aware its a 9 year old car so software is probably well out of date, can I get a disk to do this or is it a dealer only job? Or am I just being a bit crap. (to clarify, on occasion the bluetooth will "see" my phone, i click connect it asks for a code, i set it to 0000 and do the same on the phone and i just comes up "not connected")

Lastly the climate control is a bit dicky... If I put it on LO it will blow lovely and cold, if i put it to 17*c or any other temperature it cooks me to death. I'm assuming this is because the internal temp sensor is giving the climate control the wrong temperature. Does that sound correct? Is it easy to replace? I have done the diagnostic by holding the rear demist and air recirc (I think?) button down and it appeared to move all the flaps etc and the buttons stopped flashing after 60 seconds or so which according to the guide I found ment that all was "working")

1 It is controlled from the Comand. Pretty sure it is under the 'serv' menu.
2 The Bluetooth is headset only and basically useless. You will need a separate Bluetooth to connect. If there is a phone pre-wire (in the centre console) Viseeo do a range of products.
There are other cheaper options.
3 Sounds like a sticky duo valve - I've not had any experience on this but do a search and see if this matches your experience.
Could possibly also be broken heater stepper motor gears - can you hear a clicking noise for 30 secs when you first turn on?

Welcome to the forum! I love the CLK :)

1. Yes I can see where to set the time, what Im saying is the clock doesn't actually move. It stays at the same time all the time so appears to be broken?
2. Surely the bluetooth is designed to connect to the phone so you can use the car to control the phone to make and receive calls?
3. No clicking noises on start up as I said the self test on the HVAC system seems to come back clear it just doesn't seem to be able to get to the temperature I have set. With its insistence on heating me it seems like the internal temp sensor (assuming it has one?)

Thank you, i am quite taken with it to be honest. The 7 speed auto is pretty good as well!)

1 there MAY be a setting in the console display (from the steering wheel buttons) to select auto time update (from the radio/satnav) or manual (there isn't on mine, and I'm not even sure that this is available on this model.

2 Nope

Thanks, I can see what they have tried to do with the bluetooth... shame it doesnt do what I thought it did!

As for the clock ive been and looked and there is no option to force the update of the time on the analogue clock. As I mentioned the hands do not move at all. I have looked in the manual and it appears to be one fuse for the cluster and as everything else works (revs speed, warning lights etc) I can only assume the clock is mainly broken... how annoying!

If you have Comand then the clock takes its time from the radio signal. Ours stopped working in the SLK for a while and then just as suddenly restarted. No idea why.
The bluetooth on these early cars does not function. It will recognise a phone but thats about it. I was told that the other functions were disabled because it did not work properly. If you have a phone connector in the armrest (most with comand will have been specified with this) then a Viseeo unit will solve the problem.

I did see somewhere on a forum that they disconnected the battery for 24 hours and it solved the issue on a CLK. So I might try that... However will there be any implication? I have no radio code etc for the car will it need that?

^Radio code if you have one will be lost and the windows and sunroof will have to be reset. The dealer can give you the code if you supply them with your Vin#.
Just run the windows down individually with the remote, then back up and hold the remote button down for a couple of seconds.

No radio code needed. I tried taking the fuses out to the radio/instruments when ours went funny. Made no difference. Try looking under "system" or "settings" in command. There should be an option to adjust the clock time in 1 hour steps to allow for time zones. This might possibly reactivate it

Thanks guys I appreciate the help with this. I will try moving the time on, although I have tried changing the format to try and kick it into life. I will give the fuse removal a try as well.

Do the windows need setting? I'm amazed at something so modern... I can understand my ancient range rover needing that!
