CLK430 poor acceleration

Mercedes CLK430
Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and require some advice if possible. I have done much searching on Google for my problem but still not getting anywhere.

My CLK430 is 2001, its had limited service history and has poor acceleration. It's done just under 120,000 miles. I have had the car for about 2 months so far. Don't feel much g-force at all when putting my foot down.

Firstly, I have changed the spark plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter. Then I decided to remove the secondary CAT's and mid box.

Secondly, I have changed the MAF sensor and all ignition leads. After all this it improved the performance and I have smooth idle, as before it felt the whole car was shaking.

I have access to DAS with multiplexer but am no expert in this field. I have used it to check fault codes but none present. I did the actuation's of turning off the 'A' side and 'B' side of ignition coils and not 100% sure what I'm actually looking for. Some of the cylinders would go from 0.0s2 to 3.0s2 and one or two as high as 4.0s2 labelled as smooth running cylinders.

The back pressure from the exhaust feels fine, EGR valve is moving when using the STAR machine and the kick down button on the throttle is fine. I have recorded a video of doing a 0-60mph and does it around 8 seconds (CLK430 0-62mph - YouTube)

I have started to use V-Power/Super Unleaded to see if this makes any difference. I have already used injector cleaner as well with a full tank of petrol.

I have no idea what to do next?

answer is simple, if you have a good indie near you take it to them let them put it on star and see if anything comes up. stop throwing parts at it. if you are in london contact terry at wayne gates mercedes benz servicing and tell him niket sent you he will take care of you.

Thanks, but I live in Salisbury so I have contacted BlackC55 in Portsmouth and PKF Engineering in Salisbury to see what they say.

To me that looks fine to me, it is actually about 7 sec as it jumps from 6 straight to 8 on the time bar, although I have never drive a 430 I have drive a 2003 S500 and it look very similar to that time

When I play a video side by side with other CLK430, mine seems a bit sluggish. I think the best thing to do is drive another CLK430 maybe. Anyone in the Salisbury area? :D

I can confirm that the CLK430 will do 60 in around six and a half secs , as per the handbook ;)

Just checking , is yours a coupe or a cab ? the cab is considerably slower due to the stiffening added ( approx. 200kgs worth )

Also , what wheels have you got fitted ?

Replaced a duff lambda sensor in my clk320 when I had it and it transformed the acceleration. Should definitely feel some g's, especially in a 430.

Mine is the coupe with 18 inch AMG alloys.

You had poor acceleration and it was just a duff lambda sensor? Anyway of checking before I buy that its a lambda sensor. Do you know the procedure on DAS?

If you aren't sure what you are doing with the diagnostic , for the sake of chucking parts at it and them not curing the fault , I would pop down to a good Indy who has STAR ( the proper MB system )

Thanks. I do have the proper MB system on a laptop with STAR, Xentry and DAS with the 36 pin multiplexer but not a professional in using it. Just need to find procedures.

Just wanted to post my findings, I did an adaption reset using the Mercedes star software on the transmission and engine control modules and the engine runs much better now. Can actually do 0-62mph in proper time. Thanks for everyone that posted.
