Clonking noise

Last night our car started to make a clonking sound from the front drivers side wheel. It seems to happen at ~3/4 lock and also when going over speed bumps?

Any ideas on what it is would be appreciated, mildly annoyed since had the car serviced 3wks back.

not sure if you have the same issue as me, i have recently changed my front disc, bushes and shocks. the clonking noise i feel is the calipers hitting the brakes which i will find time to get it sorted. am i wrong to think something is wrong there? i hear it more often now.

by the way does anyone know why my brakes whistles like mad after i brake very hard once (presumably the brakes were hot cuz they stop when it cools down).

I think that would be youre brakes squealing, have they been changed recently? Did you apply any anti-squeal or brake pad paste? You can pick up some mercedes anti-squeal paste if you prefer or some copper grease should do the job. It is normal for disc brakes to squeal.

The paste needs to be applied to the backing of the pads and this should cure the problem.

Reminds me of the time when I took my previous car in for an MOT. Small garage. Collected it. Drove 50 yards down the road. Suddenly a clonking noise from the offside front wheel. Drove around the square back to the MOT station.

On the ramp. Front off side wheel nuts were loose!!!

Well it appears that the spring broke :( so car is at inlaws waiting to go to a mechanic.

Do both sides need replacing at the same time?

Thanks

Apologies for bumping this, but I'm somewhat confused as to whether I need to replace the springs on both sides or just one?

Mercedes dealer said do both sides, indy said just do the one that's broken?

Which is correct?

Thanks in advance

D.

Technically you should do both but if the car is fairly new then you could replace just the one, but bear in mind the other is probably not far behind in terms of corrosion and fatigue.

It's a '99 car so fairly old :|

Will see if my 3rd party warranty will spring for both or just the one :(
