Close Call!

My neighbour opposite did this his car ran off the drive and demolished our garden wall, 6ft to the left it would have been into the back of my volvo on the drive, if no cars had been on the drive it would have been through the front door

I'd have preferred it to hit the back of the Volvo rather than the wall.

Old Volvo probably harder than wall?

Wasn't there a Citroen that suffered from failing handbrakes a few years back. I've only had it happen to me once, an old Vauxhall Victor 101 parked outside my grandparents went for a little jaunt down the road until it mounted the pavement and stopped against the wall.

Xantia had that issue - father in law had one which disappeared off his drive ending up in opposite neighbours garden.

Many years ago my parents lived in a house on the A12 in a smallish village. They had no off road parking. The house was on a gentle bend (good camber across the bend) with a junction opposite. Due to the junction & the bend the road was wide enough to park opposite their house adjacent to the junction (illegal, I know:rolleyes:)
A visitor in a Morris 1000 Traveller parked opposite. A while later, glanced out of the window and their car had gone. Rushed outside to find that they had forgot to apply the handbrake - the car had rolled across the A12 and come to rest neatly parked against the kerb on the opposite side of the road - no damage done!

It was the Xantia. Citroen removed the first five notches from the ratchet to ensure it was set well on.

Hot brake discs and pads cooling down and releasing the brake pressure is the likely cause.

Another reason to buy an automatic.

This is exactly what happened to me when I worked for a removal company years ago.

Parked a transit Luton on a fairly steep incline , after a long drive , started unloading the other truck ( the transit was for overspill and garden stuff ) and looked out the back just in time to see it fly past backwards , pile into the front of the customers Rav 4 and punt it backwards through a neighbours hedge.

That was an interesting conversation I can tell you. all of the crew pissing themselves while I have to go and explain.

Keeping with the animal theme - are you sure your alter ego is Mr Toad, not Mr Shifter?

I've used P for years without a problem, but then I rarely park on hills or slopes. I'll use the foot operated parking brake when parked on a slope, but prefer not to asmy left knee is not good.

Fortunately nobody hurt - things could have been far worse.

I thought only Clarkson parked on Slopes.
