Hi guys.

I have some winter tyres to fit to my 2011 CLS 218. It has some kind of tyre pressure sensor system - is there anything in the wheel/valve I need to keep? Or does the system just work using the ABS/rolling radius?

Also, is there anywhere in the system menus that tells me how long before the next service? I think its 15k/1 year but I cannot find any kind of countdown/oil quality type estimation in the menus (like a BMW or VW has).

Thank you!

If you are changing just the tyres, you'll need to keep the sensor units which have a built in valve. The tyre shop will immediately know they are sensors.

If you are changing wheels and tyres you'll need to get 4 new sensors if you want to avoid the light warning popping up all the time.

Don't know about your year of CLS showing service due, but if not you can easily get your service record from local dealer or online.

cheers, Steve

Thanks Steve. I know when the last service was and what it was, just wondering if these cars have a condition-based service measurement, or whether they are set by time only.

I thought the tyre pressure warning system was radius based, in that a partially inflated tyre will rotate quicker than a fully inflated tyre of the same size. Of course, I could be wrong, but that is the system my Merc uses.

As for the service indicator, on the more modern Mercs, there should be an ASSYST menu or similar that tells you when the next service is due. On my old CLK, and my current CLS, there is a specific menu item, and on our 2007 B Class you can scroll to the service interval using the steering wheel buttons.

It all depends on how old your Merc is.

Mines the same and it seems quite sensitive as it was trigged by a tyre rotation when there was no more than 1 or 2mm difference in the tyre radius. Just needed to press a few buttons to recalibrate.

Well I thought you could just turn the tyre sensors off by choosing that option,on the computer,I only say that as my S320 did not have the tyre pressure sensors and then I bought a set of alloys and tyres which did have and then called it up and set the pressure.
