CLS Auxiliary Battery

Hi is this on a CLS? not that that should make a difference, how long have you been using it and have you had any issues at all?

CLS55, been in there for coming up to four years now and never had an issue with the car until now but that's unrelated :)

thats what I thought but is it worth the chance of causing more trouble, although I cant for the life of me think what could go wrong, and I have now found an OE one for £64 so is it worth the risk. just sticks in my craw paying double for the same thing lol

Its the same voltage and can supply the same 10-12ah so shouldn't do no damage. the only thing i dont know is how much charging current mercedes use to charge the battery as the Yuasa YTX14-BS only needs 1.4Amp max

spoke to Manbat again and the chap I spoke to said he had fitted one to a merc a few years ago and and the car wouldnt start and they had to call local mercedes out to tow it in and repair at a cost of £350 and so now they wont recommend them, so now I again dont know whats best lol

Hmm that's interesting. The only real way to know, would of been to actual know what was repaired on the car. I wonder if they disconnected the boot battery before replacing the Aux battery. I think just go with the merc battery to be on the safe side.

yes me too I cant afford more problems at the minute, I just rang mercedes and asked the guy there and he said he hadnt heard of anybody doing it but to be safe he would fit OE, obviously lol

Just an update on my behalf, just to help others, I decided to also upgrade my auxiliary battery as it was installed in 2004 and I'm getting fault codes on the AB-airbag system, saying the supply voltage of the control unit is too low (didn't fix the problem). I went for an after market battery, the Exide EK1314 with more capacity of 13ah and 200CCA this battery is an AGM battery and has the exact same external dimensions as the MB one.
so far no problems, lets hop its all good.

No, you don't have one in the W203.

In the CLS it's fitted underneath the pollen filter, nearside rear of the engine bay

well I bought a mercedes battery in the end from MB Teeside who had them advertised on ebay for £64.68 inc p&p (bit of a bargain I thought). installed it and all is now fine. I did disconnect the main battery first just in case I caused any issues and it all works as it should, just had to adjust the clock because I didnt have a saver cable to hand

an added bonus to fitting the replacement battery is that my heated rear window now works and that hasn't worked before in the 5 years that I have owned the car so happy days lol

I used a Yuasa YTX14-BS, top quality bike battery to same spec as MB one and £40 delivered if you shop around.

Yes, Yuasa are not well known in the car parts market, but they are top-notch manufacturer for motorcycle and for industrial UPS batteries.
