Does anyone know if the airmatic shocks
On the 55 are the same as the other cls models
the 500 ect , I'm guessing they might be stiffer !!
Mine keeps dropping on the rear driver side ,
I fixed a leek on the res but it's still slowly dropping ;(

Suspension is AMG tuned and is defo stiffer than other models. You need to source AMG specific parts.

Thanks guys , I've just ordered a new air tank
I'll fit that and see if I still get drop , mine has
corroded on the spout where the pipe fits .
I chemical metalled it but after a few weeks it
Leeks again !

Did you do all the work yourself andrew?

I have same issue on mine and want to get it investigated by someone who has enough experience with Airmatic. I have attempted a few mechanics and no one really interested in doing investigatory work on fixing airmatic leaks

Hi yes I did all the work , it's pretty straight forward but very awkward even on the ramp .
My res has a couple of holes in it so I attempted
To seal it with chemical metal , most of the ally
Res tanks will be corroding now due to age .
That's the only issue I've had but it's leaking
again as I think the alloy contacts and expands
breaking the seal ! I also had the same problem
with trying to get someone willing to tackle this
problem , if I can't sort it I will get a complete new air shock as its peeing me off now .
Mercedes attempted it charged me £100 and
all they did was push the pipe on further and
Tighten the clip !! It lasted 3 days ;(

Mine had the same issue in its life and has got the Arnott replacements that do away with the metal tank. Like you say, its a common fault and a really strange one as its not a obvious place for it to corrode.

Hope the new tank solves the leak mate.

Well I've just had another hour under the car .
A bit of pipe tweaking and moving the clips
around seems to have sorted it , air was seeping
out at the top side which was nearly impossible
to detect , a bit of soapy spray revealed a very
small leek ,I couldn't rest till I was sure I'd done
Everything I could before changing out the shock
Time will tell ;)

can you help me check mine over as well plss? for many beers in exchange ofcourse

Agree, even if you have to do running repairs every six months it's better than new struts.

I have seen across the pond some chaps have had new tanks fabricated to cure this issue.

Well my friend is a fabricator and he wants to make me a couple in stainless steel so watch this
space ;)

Thats a result if you can attempt a fix at home! was it easy to remove the tanks? Also did you do it on axle stands?

The tanks are a pain to remove due to there location , exhaust ,cables are in the way and it's a bit of a puzzle to remove ,you really need to have the car in the air tbh , I use axle stands ect
But there's very little room to move and get your
hand in there , it doesn't help with the diff resting
on your chest either , if your clostrafobic it needs
to go on the car lift ;)

That would be ideal Andrew. Get those made up and fitted, happy days.

Would be interested in this too, please keep us posted and if the cost is reasonable, then it's a good way to go!
