Hi all. Apologies for the dumb question, but is it possible to use this tyre inflator to pump up a tyre directly, in other words without the tyre weld? These are all the bits I have, am I missing something or is it not designed to do that? TIA.

The owner's handbook states one can use the air pump to inflate the collapsible spare that some models came with, so I'd say it's ok to inflate a normal tyre. Handbook also states don't operate the pump longer than 8mins at a time. One can start again once it cools down..

I have used mine to inflate tyres in the usual way.

Do you have exactly the same "Tirefit"kit as I have though (photos above)? My car never had a spare wheel, collapsable or otherwise as the battery is in the boot. My compressor doesn't have the correct connection for a tyre valve, you only appear to be able to connect it via the bottle with the liquid in it. In other words: Compressor > Bottle > Tyre valve. I can't see a way of connecting the compressor directly to the tyre valve, which is why I was asking if I was missing anything, or whether this is just how it's designed i.e. you can't pump up a tyre in the "normal" way with this kit?

Doesn't the bit in your hand on the photo screw into the tyre valve?
Edit.... Just noticed the pump and gunk are for a BMW so it might not fit.

Didn't spot the kit is BMW!
Whatever, picture #5 on the unit shows it connected directly with the tyre and all tyres use the same valve?

I have this kit from my previous BMW. Mine didn't have the bottle though, probably already used by the previous owner, but it definitely does have a detachable cable to connect the compressor directly to the tyre valve so I can use it as a pump without the bottle. From memory its a yellow connection on the end which connects to the compressor and the other end is a golden valve which screws into the tyre valve so it sounds like this is your missing piece unfortunately.

The instructions on the BMW kit shown here appear to show how to use the compressor to pump gunk into a punctured tyre. I am pretty sure the compressor should work without the can of gunk as I have a FORD version of the same thing that I use on bicycle tyres and other cars we have when I cant be bothered to use my compressor.

It would be odd that an 'emergency' on board compressor would not be able to simply inflate a tyre.
