gearbox issues, clunking noise when moving from park to reverse or to drive, seems worse when on an incline seems to be less clunky when moving gear lever quickly.this fault does not occur when engine is engaged in drive or using tiptronic. is this clunking or in other words transmission shunt normal or could it be serious.e430 w210 not long had the car but any help would be appreciated.

Check the propshaft couplings and gearbox mount. Probably the mount but could be either.
