OK,

On my COMAND-APS is a bluetooth menu, (once I press SERV). This dissapeared after I upgraded the NAV disk to 6.1 - but it turns out that it was set to 'disabled' in my UHI phone system. So, that was turned back to 'enabled' - car left for 20 minutes, and then back came the menu item.

I can get it to pair with my Nokia 6230i - but then it disconnects... I'm pretty sure that this is because there is no bluetooth aerial connected to the phone controller in my car (it was supplied with an Audio-20-CD, I put COMAND-APS in).

Anyone played with that Bluetooth menu / pairing, and found out what it actually does ???

I dont have a COMAND-APS manual , so I can't look in there ..

Cheers

Isn't the bluetooth within comand just for swapping phone number / business card info ? Surely u need the Bluetooth UHI (Is this out yet - if so, I want one!) to connect to the nav / comand for full phone functionality ?

I dont know. I have noticed that the COMAND units and the phone controllers all have new part numbers for MY 2007 - and wonder whether they are planning on building in the full bluetooth functionality at that point ..

I cant even get my bluetooth thing to do anything , it pairs for a while and gives up - but I dont actually know what it should do :-)

If its any consolation my COMAND APS does exactly the same. I just got the car and tried to pair up two telephones but it kept disconnecting them both from the COMAND. Thw manual does not cover use of telephones through the bluetooth - it merely tells you how to connect devices.

Looks like I'm going to have to wait until I get a rather expensive cradle to use the hard wiring connection in the centre arm rest :(

By the way, is the 6.1 any better than version 4 - I mean does it add a lot of functionality? I'm waiting for a new DVD to come from Mercedes Direct as the one that came with the car was scratched, so i've not actually used it yet, but maybe its worth saving up for if its a lot better?

Stuff about BlueTooth here: http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=19356

COMAND APS as it comes doesn't seem to do anything bluetooth wise. I did see somewhere that it will support a bluetooth headset (Bluetooth does indeed have different 'profiles') but I've never got around to trying it.
Anyone else tried this?

Rev6.1 compared to V4 of the DVD adds TMC for the UK.

As you know the MOST UHI module fits all cars from A to SL. In the S-Class the Bluetooth function is for the second phone which is run over Bluetooth and lives in the centre folding armrest in the rear backrest.

This Bluetooth phone can read the phonebook and make calls.

The generic use for Mercedes Bluetooth is to engage the privacy earpiece such as the type you would normally use from phone to ear. This prevents other passengers from hearing the conversation.

There is mention of it also working with PDA phones but that function was never epxlained to me at all and I think that PDA is no longer being made.

For anyone thinking Bluetooth is agile and universal in all respects I can assure you that various aspects of it are device specific.
