I have done a number of searches on this forum to try to find out what version is currently installed on my Comand. I accept I may be being slow:o however all I have found is what the latest available version(s) are for my car ie.
Head unit = SW-Rel 15.130 Build 51/05
Navigation Processor = SW-Rel 1.91

Can anyone help:confused:?

You should be able to find the software version by going into engineering mode:

Press and hold Mute - Service and End call

Software version is the top left soft key

Thanks Steve

I have looked at this setting and am not sure what it is telling me. I can't relate this information to the latest version information I have (maybe the heat!). The information my comand shows is:
SW ver.HU:48/2004

Mine is SW ver. HU:15/2004 so yours appears be a later version.

My car is a May 2005 build registered in December 2005 which seems a similar age to yours.

The very latest software version is SW-Rel 15.130 Build 51/05. I am told its a free warrenty upgrade but you have to ask for it - it won't be done automatically when the car is in for a service.

This software version apparantly removes the access to to the DrDIST, RegCode and Backd "hidden menus" so if you have access to multi region DVD's and "Video in motion" you will loose them.

If you are running VER 5.0 or 5.1 of the Navigation Disk this software release is supposed to correct the problem of the slow traffic icons (the red and yellow cars) from appearing on the wrong side ofthe road.

Finally the Navigation unit in the boot also has software (I don't know how to find out what version this is on the car) but the latest release is SW-Rel 1.91.

Its all very complicated!!!

I can confirm that the backdoor access is removd by that level (including access to the engineering menu).

Access to the Asysst reset/change stuff also disappeared at the same upgrade!

My interest in being on the latest firmware is specifically to try to improve the reliability of the directions. Currently if I travel along the A14, which I unfortunately do a lot:(, sometimes as frequently as every other junction it shows me going off the slip and into the local area eventually jumping back to the A14 2 or so miles further on. In a town the guidance literally spends more time on other roads within 50 - 100m of where I am than where I actually am. I end up trying to use it only as an electronic map.

Nothing is perfect I know:rolleyes:, especially inbuilt Nav systems no mater which manufacturer. It is also not a good idea, for many reasons, to compare them to the likes of TomTom (it would be depressing) as I have seen done on this forum. I haven’t however seen many posts regarding the navigation being as bad as it seams to be for me.

Regarding the engineering menu the only bits of interest to me was MP3 and DVD region free. I won’t even go there with some of the other hot topic options in this menu. The MP3 option setting seams irrelevant since my service, it just works. Region free I could live without.

Just a thought, since some upgrading is done when a new version nav DVD is used what version nav disk are you using? I am currently using 4.1. I plan to upgrade to 5.1 but am reluctant to do so in case the current problems remain.

I UPGRADED FROM ver 4.1 to VER 5.0. The obvious benefit is the TMC but I did notice that the voice instructions, especially on roundabouts, were a lot better. Now 5.1 is out have a look on ebay for a ver5.0. The TMC has certainly saved me time on at least 2 occassions.

No definite answer on whats included in VER5.1 - MB Dealer POI is one item and better maps of Norway from another member. However VER5.0 is discontinued so a dealer will only supply VER5.1.

Yes, the screen does say updating or loading when you put a newer version disk DVD in the boot unit - I assumed this was loading the map data into the unit rather than updating anything on the head unit. I guess it could be the Navigation unit software but I simply don't know. I certainly haven't noticed anything change as a result of moving from 4.1 to 5.0 - apart from the Navigation changes.

If you do get the new head unit software let us know if you notice any changes. Obviously you will need the ver5.1 disk to check if the traffic icons are on the correct side of the road.

I don't think this is a Nav disk software problem. My reason for saying that is I've travelled along the A14 from the M6 to M11 and back quite a few times both with V4 and V4.1 software and have never experienced the problem you describe.

I agree with you about the nav disk. I am trying to rule out the easy possibilities first. The problem might possibly be with the firmware (not on the nav disk) hence my wish to make sure I am on the latest in order to rule it out. After that all I can think of is either a problem with GPS receiver, cabling or if there is some sort of software positional offset function although I haven’t found one. I am having a chat with my local MB dealer tomorrow about it. It will be interesting to hear their comments.
