Comand APS Version 5.1

My CLS Sept 2006 came with Comand APS version 5.0 DVD. I complained to the Sales Manager but he was unable to help as ALL new cars were arriving with version 5.0, despite the fact that version 5.1 came out in April 2006???

I wrote to MB at Milton Keynes and had a reply from Customer Relations in the Netherlands? Anyway they have arranged for my local dealer to give me a version 5.1 off the shelf. I picked it up today, RESULT.

My query is: -

How many people with NEW cars CL class, E class, Maybach, S class,SL class,SLK class and CLS class, have picked their cars up with version 5.0 or 5.1 THIS YEAR???

By the way, anyone know when the next version is due??

Map is updated and TMC still works as before.

Early days but still some parts of the map 12 months out of date.

Interesting that version 5.0 did not show my MB dealer which has been there for three years. Version 5.1 did.

Theres a recall on 5.0 - Greenoaks parts department had a note up at one point.

I can;t remember what date range of cars it applies to though - perhaps someone who does this can ask

I suggest that if you have 5.0 you go speak to your parts department and mention the recall !!

I did that when I picked up the car, they DENIDE that a recall existed mate?

This is why I wrote to MB HQ.

New version due out any day now. Spoke to the factory in Stuttgart in August about this very topic - at the time it was in testing, they estimated it would be out sometime in late November / early December. To be fair he said UK is likely to be January.

Re 5.1 versus 5.0 - I've found no difference.

Recall was mentioned by glojo a while back - so its definately about.

Ver 5.1 is definititely a free upgradefrom ver5.0. Only difference I have found is an updated Dealer POI - buts its still well out of date from reality. Makes you wonderhow they can charge £250!

5.1 fixes some firmware bugs in 5.0 but the map (apart from the MB dealers POI update) seems the same. Stayed in a major Marriott off the M42 recently & 5.1 had no idea it was there!

I voted later as I have 6.3 but this doesnt apply to the CLS. Its odd that they are so slow to release newer versions for the more up market models whereas with the C, CLK, ML, A, B etc the new versions come out fairly frequently!

Picked up CLS from Germany Nov 05 with V4.0 complained to dealer and got 5.0 in Jan 06 FOC so suggest you complain in middle of showroom on busy day. Works a treat!

Sorry It came with V4.1 got free update to V5 then dealer managed to update to V5.1 in June 06 as a favour!
