Picked up my new (new to me its a 2004) C270 and been finding out what it can do I was playing with comand and the cd changer and spotted what lokked like a headphone socket in the glovebox next to the changer.

Just for fun i plugged my i-pod into it and hay-presto when selecting Aux out comes the music from my i-pod.:bannana:

My questions are these.

1) I thought it was either or with a cd changer, i.e either a cd changer OR an ipod not both.

2) if i can have both devices how many things can be added presumably it is a fiber-optic daisy chain.

3) is there any way to control the ipod from comand (I don't think so but you never know)?

Thanks for your help.

You can add things to the daisy chain, with fiber optics must you must tell the head unit how many things in the chain, I think that they go up to 6 items

Your ipod is not coupled by fiber optics so it will not upset the chain.

Aux has nothing to do wth cd. You are correct the cd is fibre optic, however the aux plug is copper (wire ) and is simply an anologue in function. There is no way of controlling the ipod using this as quite simply its an audio in socket with two wires attached to it.

Thanks for that now I have got to figure out video, I guess a DVD plaver can be added to the chain.

Thanks for your help.:D

A c270 2004 should have a dvd based comand anyway. Does yours?

Yes mine is. its got a cd changer. I have tried a dvd movie in the slot on the front of Comand were the nav dvd goes but nothing happens, I presume that the Comand unit will not play video DVD's am i wrong?

Thanks for that, mine is a late 04, I will have do do a bit more playing.

Thanks again

The factory IPOD kit works a lot better than the AUX input as it allows the ipod to charge, be controllable from the steering wheel and displays track names in the cluster. The factory kit does not interfere with a Cd changer. You can have both. I have;)

April 2004 build onwards was the facelifted W203. So pretty much all 54 plated cars are facelifted plus some 04 plated ones.

W203 COMAND units do not play DVD's

Could somone please tell me the part no for the factory Ipod kit that can be fitted with the Cd changer. W209 cab Dec 04 with comand APS.

Also manged to get CDs to show artist & track information by burning from iTunes with 'include CD text' selected.
