My Comand got lost today, it seems to think it is about 30miles from where it actually is !

Is there a way to reset it ?

Or a way to check if it is receiving GPS Signal ?

To see if it's receiving a GPS signal make sure that Navigation is OFF and then press the 'Map' button. You should get a map of your location (or not in your case!) and the number of satellites seen in the top bar.

Assuming you are talking about Comand in an 07 car as per your signature;

You need to simply change the display to view current location and it should show you on the bottom of the screen how many satellites you are seeing. You need three or more to get the fix correct.

What version of the S/W do you have?

When I put the map on, or the nav map with no destination, the only things I have on the screen (other than the map) are the compass bottom left and mobile phone signal level bottom right. :(

Silly Question -- but are you putting the dvd in the drive? It needs to be in it to bring up the map

Yes, lol, the dvd is in, map is showing, as are the compass bottom left and mobile signal bottom right, but location shows as A1/M62 junction which it where is got confused (as the road layout changed last year) and not Harrogate where I actually am.....

Quietly, but firmly, tell it that unless it starts behaving, it will be replaced with a TomTom. Should do the trick. :)

Not sure if it is any help, but most nav systems I have heard of seem to hit problems around there since they changed the layout! I know my Tom-Tom goes nuts in Harrogate - probably the wrong socio-economic group :D

Yes, my butler has had similar problems with his tom tom. :D

It is unfortunately a womans voice, and it would seem to be as stubborn...

When my COMAND Sat Nav started showing me as being 50-100 miles from where I was it turned out to be an aerial fault.

I have a spare GPS aerial so I may have to pull it all to bits and try that on Thursday if it is still screwy tomorrow.

Are there no engineering menus or anything to access and check these things though ?

Nah you'd need a DAS to check what the COMAND is seeing.

If your getting satellites (as said you need 3 min really) then park the car with a view to the sky and remove the power from the COMAND for a few minutes.

Its not a full reset by any means but sometimes its just enough.

trouble is i don't know if I am getting satellites or not :~

Just bumping this up. Didn't stratman's advice from post #4 help? No indication about the number of satellites?

I only have a manual for an E-class and the W221, from the E-class Comand manual I did not find the advice how to get the number of satellites shown

Someone with a similar device should help really!

Okay, all you need to do is to press MAP then press one of the keys next to the screen, the ones in a column down the side of the screen. Then select Display then map. Select 'Current-location-display'. Press back.

This will show you a black bar on the bottom of the screen which has your coordinates, number of satellites and possibly your height above sea level depending on how many satellites you are seeing.
