Dear Group

I am about to exchange my trusty E series estate for a 2002 270 cdi estate. If anyone has had any experience of this vehicle. I would appreciate feedback. One of my main considerations is fuel economy though maintenance and other niggles of the particular car would be appreciated. Many thanks

Sam

I had one.

I took it from 3,500 to 47,000 miles. The only problems I had were a EGR valve failure (possibly related to me chipping the car?) and front suspension bushes wearing prematurely (common on pre-facelift W203s). The 270 is a well tested engine with a nice 5-cylinder warble - a good mix of power economy and refinement I think (let's face it all engines are a compromise to some extent - you can't have it all!).

An 02 should have any electrical problems sorted by now, but check it has had the rust recall check (door edges) - mine was OK but some weren't properly treated at the door top edges. Estates are German-built and apparently better rust-treated than SA-built saloons. A facelift 270 will have tighter handling/steering.

I missed my 270 estate so much that after a spell with an E211 estate I am now driving a C320CDI Estate, which I geuss says a lot.

Many thanks Jeremy. Thats really helpful
