Hi gang ....

I am talking to you from my old PC at the moment  as my new one is having a mare .....

Basically i tried to re-install the modem software the other day after it kept dropping the connection and now, although the drivers 'appear' to be installed ok , and i have two green lights on my modem (USB) and (ADSL) which indicates that all is well ..... i have a red modem symbol on my taskbar that means the modem is not connected .....

Now, when i click 'connect' on my desktop i get a message that says ....

RAS capable device (SPEEDTOUCH) not found
Check your device is connected properly
Failed to create dia-up networking entry (Alcatel Speedtouch Connection)

and then , when i click 'OK' i get another box with the header STDialup :-

Could not create entry (Alcatel Speedtouch Connection)

This is driving me nuts as it effectively means that my brand new PC is unusable ....

Any ideas ?

is it possible that you have some sort of driver conflict?

Try rolling back your main PC a couple of days then uninstalling the old drivers before you try and reinstall the new ones

Hmmmmm ....

Rolling back ?

Rolling back = System Restore

Basically you can roll back the system to the state it was in before you reinstalled the drivers.

Hmmmm .....

OK, am trying that now ..... thanks for the prompt replys, i actually threw the mouse across the room in a fit of frustraction last night .....

Bear with me .....

Sorry for my PC ignorance chaps ....... im a simple guy at heart .....

OK, done that .......

Seems to think that the modem is not connected properly .....

The USB light flashes red once and then both green lights come on for a second or two and then it repeats .....

If i try to connect it says :-

Unable to connect, the modem is busy or not connected properly

I have three modems, all the same model and it says it with all of them (i have tried all three) .....

Now the troubleshooting guide says that the red USB light means that the USB port is congested ... but there is nothing else plugged in that is USB powered ...

Any other ideas much appreciated....

Try uninstalling the software, then disconnected the hardware and reboot without it.
Then re-connect the equipment so that Windows sees it as New Hardware.

Dudes .....:bannana: :bannana:

Once again it just shows what a legendary group of members there are on this forum ......

It has been doing my head in since last night, i have phoned Orange Broadband , who told me to phone Microsoft who told me ( the guy was obviously reading from a script) that as XP was preinstalled on my PC that i have to phone the PC manufacturers ....

What a runaround..... and you monsters fix it in 5 minutes !!! :bannana:

If i ever get enough time of work to make it to another GTG , i owe a lot of you a lot of beers !!

Once again .... many thanks !!!!!

H :bannana:

As PJH has said, I have had problems when I have installed the software:( if you leave it to Windows to install it, it seams to work ok with most things. Good luck.

It (the 'Wizard' )was finding the new hardware and then saying that it can't find a driver even though the CD was in the drive and then saying that it can't be installed ....

Computers really can be a pain, I sometimes wonder why I work with em ;) Usually get that feeling at about 3am when we're updating servers or rolling out our new software etc...

Don't you love it when you get stupid error messages saying 'Sorry an Error has occured, please contact your IT Administrator or Support Department...'

You yell back saying I am the f*****g administrator...

I have been getting connection problems with orange/wanadoo/freeserve over the last couple of days.I live not far from you in tooting,i think it is a server/BT problem.
