Convenience phone priority over bluetooth

2009 GLK 280
Hi,

1st post about 1st MB car.

British expat living in Dubai just bought a 2009 GLK280 with audio 20.

It has the convenience phone cradle, but I prefer to connect my iphone via bluetooth.

However it doesn't automatically re-connect next time. The convenience phone is always default/priority. I have to go into telephone and manually select my iphone, which then connects.

More annoying than anything, but used to having bluetooth connect in cars without me having to do anything, strange setup..

Any ideas, can't be the only one with this issue?

Can I remove or disable convenience phone, I don't need it?

Cheers,

The cradle just unclips from the UHI connector so remove it.

Thanks, what's UHI?

Tried to remove the cradle but couldn't, felt like I'd break it if I continued. Any ideas?

Don't you have a user manual for that cradle? It must have a small button that you press to release it from the UHI connector.

It's usually a little black ( rubber I think ) button near the top left hand section of the cradle and you may need something small like a ball point to press it.

PS can you send some sun to blighty

Managed to remove it. Didn't notice the small button as it was quite dark in there.. Cheers

The cradle is an A 204 820 41 51 for Nokia 6300.

It has a bluetooth button on the cradle as well, so I checked if I could connect my iPhone to the cradle, to use through convenience function. It could see it, but I don't know the code for the cradle to pair it..

Any ideas where I could get the bluetooth code for this cradle without the manual?

The phone specific cradles dont pair to other models of phone via bluetooth anyway.

Since your phone (iPhone) does not fit to the cradle anyway, why are you trying to use it while your radio should support BT HF (I understand you have a MY 2009 GLK) and you don't need any adapter for simple HF connectivity (you won't be using the external car antenna but that would be the case with an iPhone and a Nokia cradle too).

I was thinking that if I could pair it with the cradle, it would use the external car antenna.

Never mind, it now automatically connects to bluetooth on the audio 20, now that I've removed the cradle.

Cheers all,

Modern phones do not have any antenna connector for an external antenna. Instead they use an antenna coupler that feeds the RF signal to and from the phone, but with worse efficiency than a galvanic connection.

This needs a specific mechanical design, the coupler at the cradle has to be exactly at the point the antenna is at the phone, and very close to it. Since this is not possible for a different phone from what the cradle was built for, it would not be possible to make use of the external antenna.

Perhaps you were confused with the BT SAP cradle where the external antenna is used even if your phone is in your pocket. But in this case it is not your phone in your pocket transmitting at all but the BT SAP adapter instead (which is a real phone actually).

Hi Fayssal,
You have asked a question in a post that is from 2011, and the original poster has not been about since. Also the thread is marked as solved, so you may not get too many replies.
May I suggest you begin your own thread, with your own topic and you may get some replies.

Steve.
