Correct engine coolant?

Yes I could do that and I appreciate that, that would remove the warning but is that the answer.
Think I will sleep on it until the 1ltr of anti freeze arrives. Got a couple of days to do a bit more digging.

The coolant system cacapcity is 6.5L to 8.0L depending on engine type (mine is 8.0L).

Adding a small quantity of water (50 ml? 100ml? Etc) will not have any noticeable effect the coolant properties, and I think is the safest bet as you don't have to worry about what coolant you have now and which coolant to add etc.

At least in my own case , sorry to hijack OP , I've found out what's originally in there
( yellow ) thanks to this thread .

Coolant & Antifreeze Explained

It's MB G05 . And OAT allegedly .

It's OAT and IAT you definitely can't mix .

Question is do I change the top up concentrate OAT
Comma G48 MB 325.0 for newer longer life
Comma G40 MB 325.6 ?

As I did read somewhere on a forum the 325.6 requires a complete drain and refill , obviously not all forum information is correct .

That's fine Gazwould, what should be the simplest of things to find out, expect most people do a quick top-up of the coolant when necessary, now run into this same problem of " what spec anti freeze " do I need!

Keep new G48 , ( Halfrauds purchased ) haven't used it as used G48 to top up already had at home .

Or get G40 or put in VAG G13 , lol ?

I have a 2011 E200 CDi (W212). When I asked the main dealer which antifreeze I needed, they asked what was the colour of my current coolant. When I told them that my oil cooler went kaput and my coolant is now unrecognisable, they suggested that red was more modern then blue and gave me a 5 litre container of concentrated pink anticorrosion antifreeze The spec is labelled as MB 325.0 and the part number is A0009890825 /11. It costs £25.89+vat. Appeared to be a better bet then ECP.

The adviser reckoned that the coolant capacity was around 7 litres and that I would need around 3.5 litres of the concentrate and that It was cheaper to buy a 5 litre container as the 1.5 litre bottles were £11.21+vat each.

The colour and the quantity appeared to be based on guesstimate. Not seen an authoritative referenceable source on capacity. I have more then enough but good to know how much I need to mix.

The container gives no description regarding guarantee period and also does not mention type, e.g. OAT, etc. It does indicate that a 1:1 ratio would give protection to -37C so it implies that top up's of water in future would be just fine.

Morning Mubashar.
Interesting post. Going back to the failure of the oil cooler, that sounds a bit worrying. Expect you needed to have the cooling system flushed out and why did it fail on you.
Yes, red OAT did make an appearance and was the spec for my new Rover 75 that I imported new from Europe back in 1990. That said, today it appears that the colours and spec of new anti freeze has again changed as the G48 is listed as Violet and Glystin ( whatever that is ) is listed.

I've got the parts and am dropping the car off to a local garage tomorrow. I'm getting the oil cooler changed which is part of the oil filter housing and the part actually includes the oil filter and all the gaskets pre-installed. Interestingly the part number I saw on EPC (A6511800810 / A6511800610) are different to the one they gave me (A6511801310) for £78+vat. The part is officially listed as a Oil Filter. They insisted that this is the part I need and also suggested I buy 6 bolts to attach it as well.

I don't know why the Oil Cooler went but I understand that the seal and the part can go. As I understand the hot oil passes through channels in the oil cooler and the coolant passes through neighbouring channels to cool down the hot oil. Presumably a break on the channels or gasket has allowed some oil to infiltrate into the coolant. Luckily it is not the other way around.

I am getting the Oil cooler changed (including oil filter), getting the coolant completely flushed, replacing with new coolant and also getting the engine oil refreshed.

Sounds like your on it.
Hope it all goes smoothly for you and the anti freeze and oil never meet again.

My 1ltr of anti freeze arrived this morning.
I have a tester that's basic and very simple to use, so I tested the cars anti freeze before adding the top-up.
It showed that the cars anti freeze was 50/50 and appeared the same colour as the new bottle.
After mixing, I added almost 1/2 a pint ( 8 fluid oz ) and the level is now at the black marker in the coolant reservoir.

So----- it would seem that G48 was correct for your car which would possibly tie in with the 2012-2013 Glysatin period of manufacture/ factory fill despite the car being registered in early 2014. So what colour was it?;) Blue rather than violet according to that chart I posted ??

As I said, I mixed it 50/50. Took some out of the cars coolant reservoir and did a DIY colour comparison.
I can tell you, it's not the most easiest of colour comparisons to call but I would say blue, now if I've only had a spectrometer!

I was just curious to see if your experience matched with that colour chart I posted. I have heard G48 described as blue, green-blue, blue-green etc and Comma seem to characterise it green. Superimposed on all that colour stuff is of course the issue of colour blindness.
Types of Colour Blindness - Colour Blind Awareness

Glad you are happy with your choice.

Blue/Green or etc is of course in the eye of the beholder. In trying to help that I had infant ordered the correct anti freeze, I offered up equall amounts of both the old and the new at the same percentage of concentration, in the early morning light. Luckily for me I've never been diagnosed with any type of colour blindness. That said, it is a bit of a guess as far accuracy goes and would be a non starter for anyone who has colour blindness. The problem has not been helped in my case due to the cars build year/ month, being also right on the change of G48 / G40 .

The Comma Xtream G48 Antifreeze that I bought was definitely blue...….and nothing wrong with my eyesight. While not being an expert on the subject, I have heard that its the chemical composition that really counts, and matching antifreeze by colour alone is not a reliable way to judge suitability or compatibility. For example, I added some leak finder to my Comma Blue antifreeze, and it promptly changed colour to a bright lime/green colour.
