Trying to understand what would be the correct wheel sizes for my W169 A180CDI. Currently it is fitted with 15 inch steel wheels and the owner's manual lists the following options:-

R15 Summer tyres 185/65 R15 88 T
Winter tyres 185/65 R15 88 T M+S
Wheels 6 J x 15 H2 ET 44

R16 Summer tyres 195/55 R16 87 T
Winter tyres 195/55 R16 87T M+S
Wheels 6 J x 16 H2 ET 46

R17 Summer tyres 215/45 R17 87 V
Wheels 7 J x 17 H2 ET 54

So does this means that I can fit a larger wheel size by selecting R16 or even R17 for my A180CDI Classic? If so why would the ET figure changes from 44 to 54 as I step up in wheel size? Can anyone explain this/

To move the rim/tyre edge away from contacting the suspension
