I am hoping to start my 2.3 cosworth for the first time tomorrow after having to change the auxiliary sprocket, all i have left to do is put the alternator back, but before that i need to put the tension back on the chain, but is it the case of just tighting the tension bolt up and thats it or is there a certain way to do it. can anyone help.

some details of a timing chain rebuild here under the tech section. http://mb190.tripod.com/
there are several different types of timing chain tensioner and the tensioner piston requires very careful reassembly before its replaced. There used to be very good instructions on the BRAINGEARS online MANUAL SITE but it seems to be down at the moment. a similar tensioner piston reassembly is described in the Haynes Mercedes 190 manual.

...........just remember to turn it over a couple of times by hand and re-check your timing marks before the initial start up!
