hi

1994 W124 300TD...

when i brake relatively hard or turn the wheel so the front of the car moves up/down with suspension, i hear a sort of creaking sound coming from around the gearlever area.

any ideas? i've bounced/rocked the car at standstill and hear no strange sounds

thanks

derek

I noticed a creaking on my Galant last week when braking gently. It didn't seem to do it when braking hard. I stopped the car and looked at all the wheels and discovered that the thin metal sheet that surrounds the brake disk on one of the rear disks had rusted nearly through and had bent over and was gently scraping on the inside of the wheel rim.

So I thought that under braking there might have been some force to increase the load on this metal plate and make the scraping worse. I managed to pull off the damaged part, but this made no difference at all.

I now think it might be suspension bushes or something like that. But, like you I can't make the sound happen when bouncing the car.
