I'm having a slight problem with the rear left suspension on my S600. I'm getting a creaking type of sound coming into the car from the rear left. Only really occurs when the car is loaded in the boot (well its the first time i've actually loaded it!). It happens at all road speeds above 5mph but is not that bad. You can't hear it with the stereo off but its one of those things that when you do notice it it really annoys you.

When i push the car down at the rear i can hear the creaking noise from the rear left wheel area. The car has self levelling suspension so i really don't want to replace a shock absorber if i can avoid it. Any ideas on what else it could be or an easy fix??

It could be ball joints or anti-roll bar bushings.

You need to get closer and move things gently to see. Try lifting the wheel to test ball joint play.

Done that already, no play. Only time i get the noise is when the suspension is moving up and down.

My front joint creacked only on slight movement vertically.

I have got sam eprob on my W203 from rear suspension - intermitently I can hear creaking if I'm getting into the driver's seat of the car if it ha sbeen sitting idle for a while or when I bounce the car from the rear. Inital prblem was a dry ball joint which was lubricated under warranty. Stealer has checked suspension out and says all is fine... (my techie firned had car up on ramp).

Creaking is only intermitent if car is bounced from rear - ball joint issue was awful and could be heard (knocking noise of metal rubbing) when driven at any speed below 40mph...

KLP: My inital guess was that ur problem may have been related to a ball joint issue...

Well its stopped creaking now for some reason?? What i'll do is pop it down to George Frasers at some point and have it checked out.

Cheers for the tip - I will try with hand brake on/off and see if it makes difference - BUT thing that baffels me is that at times with the hand brake applied the rear suspension does not squeak BUT that is after the car has been on a drive/run. Entire rear suspension was recently checked over by Stealer by someone I know (technician) and he was admant all is good with it. I am going to look further into this and shall keep u updated on any findings. Beginning of the year entire rear suspension was lubricated under warranty and thats when I noticed creaking coming from both sides intermitently.
