Customs Duty

^ Cheers Abs.
Just a shame its not being driven hardly at all these days. Used less than a quarter tank in three weeks.

Looks better Roger, good result. :thumb:

I'd agree with drilling the bootlid, I just couldn't do it, no way.

The 3M VHB tape can be good but as has been said there are lots of different types.
We use these at work (ATM internals) but different types and keep them in separate "bin" locations to make sure the correct tape is used in the correct application as some are a lot less sticky than others.

The stikalex option would have been my preferred one but I've have roped a mate in so if it went wrong I could excuse myself. :)

I would be asking the supplier though why it does not fit the profile of the bootlid ?
These should be an exact profile so it really is just a matter of sticking it on.

Get any on your hands? - if so, that will be there until at least 1st of May.

Why don't you wear gloves?

@AMGeed Have you considered asking the supplier for a replacement - it could be a bad item which they might replace!

^^probably too late for that and not worth it. They would most likely ask for the old one to be sent back first which would be uneconomical. The fact it has been fitted would most likely void a return. Besides, they are probably made from the same mould.

Bob's reply above covers it Rory.
Probably the same mould and it's a lot of trouble and mess to remove now.

I'm reasonably happy with the way its turned out considering everything.

Don’t know what the duty rate is Roger (although 10% on automotive components sort of rings a bell) but you will get charged VAT on the total of the goods, shipping and duty charges.

....and potentially also handling fee from the courier for dealing with the customs charge.

I ordered some house window parts (sash window pivot bars) from a company in Missouri, being the only place in the world that I could find that had them. The shipping cost was $39.95 no matter how many I bought, so I ordered $80 worth. It took 8 days for the tracked package to get to Heathrow using USPS, and there the tracking says it’s stayed since 3rd June :( Interestingly, or worryingly, it’s now showing on the Parcelforce website as having left the USA but not yet arrived in the UK! I’m guessing it’s either been held up as a result of Covid-19, or Customs & Excise are still struggling to come up with what the duty should be on 64 3” zinc pivot bars! I had hoped that the exorbitant shipping cost would cover all fees, but maybe not. Only time will tell. In the meantime, we have to carry on being careful not to open some windows because they may fall out!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you have to pay import duty on both the shipping and the cost of the items. Then you pay VAT on the whole lot (goods, shipping and duty). And finally a fixed handling charge.

^ I found goods imported in from the US have a high charge added due to the items mentioned by BTB500 above. It's worked out about 40% of the cost of the goods on average for me.

Sucks on the fitment.

Without a good fitment, the 3M tape will never stick/hold the spoiler in place. You will need to go down the non tape route or OEM.

I bought a Taiwanese spoiler a few years ago and was quite fortunate with the fitment. Here is a picture of it on a sunny day.

I can cope with an extra 40% if that’s the only way to get them delivered. It’s not like I bought them from the USA because I thought it would be cheaper, it’s because they were the only ones I could find.

Looks good to me!!
