I have cycle insurance.

You can ride your motorcycle in the bus lanes, I don't complain about that.

Cycle lanes are more often than not obstructed by cars parking illegally on them straddling the footway too. (at least that's how it is in Belfast)

Well fair play to you for having cycle insurance:thumb: nice to hear from a genuine cyclist. Unfortunately we don't have any bus lanes around here  loads of unused cycle lanes though :D

Freeloaders and tree huggers have spoilt it for the genuine cyclists out there

Cyclists have never paid road tax so when did they become "freeloaders". And what evidence is there to suggest that the gang of cyclists that the OP encountered are "treehuggers" ?

Answer to question 1: When they discovered they could try and rule the road, with no identification so no responsibility for the consequences of their actions.

Answer to question 2: because they wore lycra something no red meat eating self respecting male would ever do and is more stereotypical of tree hugging vegetarians.:D

Question 1: What has the irresponsible behaviour of a minority of cyclists got to do with "freeloading" ? No cyclist, good or bad, has ever paid road tax.

Question 2: So "tree-hugging vegetarians" have a penchant for lycra ?? I must admit that's a new one to me or is this "stereotypical" view limited to the confines of your mind ?

On a selfish note:

Please forget about your no road tax, tree hugging, lycra clad nonsense and please give cyclists a wide berth no matter what they are doing.

I have a wife and 5 kids and don't want to be on the receiving end of a disgruntled motorist with an umbrage against cyclists. I play by the rules please please give cyclists give them a wide berth, it could be the difference between life and death.

Better still get a bike and get out there, you might even enjoy it :-)

You missed the point completely. They all jumped on the green bandwagon realising they had to pay SFA to use the roads

Probably it's a fine line between Genius and Insanity

See above

I play by the laws of the land which is the road traffic act, so you and fellow cyclists have nothing to fear from me :thumb:

Actually I do have a bike and use it frequently but never on the road, as thats no place for cyclists IMHO

To be honest I'm still completely missing the point. So bearing in mind that cyclists have never paid to use the road what was the event that led to the veil falling from their eyes and all these lycra-clad, vegetarian tree-huggers finally realising what everyone else had known since the bicycle was invented ?

If cyclists obeyed the Highway Code, like I mostly, do then I might just respect them. They dont however and the last two accidents I have had involved cyclists breaking all the rules and damaging my cars in the resulting collisions. Were they insured so they could pay ? Were they heck !
Sorry all you Lycra lovers but in my opinion most cyclists are a menace on the public highway.

Correct me if I am wrong but the way i read your post is that you don't respect the life of any cyclists because some ***** on bikes damaged your car.

Please don't tar us all with the same brush, we the law abiding cyclists out there are very vulnerable.

Not wishing to get into the usual ping pong slanging.

But I seriously cannot remember the last time whilst I was waiting at traffic lights that a cyclist going my direction actually waited until they turned green, they either creep slowly through and make a dash if its clear, or proceed to cycle onto the pavement and make their way across the pedestrian crossing area......and that just one HC violation.

I suppose that some cyclists are prats but come to think of it so are some car drivers , some bikers , even the odd chap with his mobility scooter etc etc etc. but don't tar all with the same brush. Hazards are hazards and all part of driving safely

Now there's a wonderful idea, we could tar them all with a brush.

I rather like that suggestion. It would need hot tar and be a stiff brush though, as you say perhaps not the same brush for all.. that wouldnt be fair at all, a wire brush for the worst offenders and a well used toilet brush for the less offensive.

Im thinking feathers too.

You're all missing the point that cyclists play a crucial role in road safety. In recent years, councils have installed traffic islands, often close to bus stops, in built up areas as a safe haven for pedestrians to cross. Cyclists contribute to the traffic calming by narrowing the gap and causing the traffic to slow to their speed (mostly).

Surely a selfless public service whilst unwittingly risking life and lycra clad limb.
