dash cam

something that looks like it belongs there ...

Street Guardian would look like it's a part of your rear view mirror assembly, once fixed next to it, in my opinion:

STREET GUARDIAN SG9665GC

It is regarded (by dashcam enthusiast forum) as one of the best dashcams on the market today, developed by one of the regulars, with continuos improvements and features added from the collective 'wish list'.
When my, seemingly indestructible, BlackVue DR400-II finally packs up, I'll be getting a Street Guardian :thumb:

Being serious not snipey, has anyone any links to a UK instance where a dash claim prevented a false claim? Does this problem actually exist?

Have no links (was a while ago) but I've seen a few videos where people have been caught out doing the slow down, brake and blame the following driver for damage that was already on their car, also other instances catching out the fraudsters that like to brake for no reason other than for you to rear-end them and claim whiplash

They must help in reality, they're like condoms. Would rather have one and not need it, than need one and not have one!

Not sure of the tech spec being comparable, but the Novatec a118 looks just the same as the street guardian, but at around £40 via eBay, and comes with a moulding to hide the wires. I have one fitted to my Lexus, fits up behind the rear view mirror, looks built in, no trailing wires!

Yes, the form factor is the same, or very similar, and the Street Guardian comes with wiring cover too, but the insides are quite different - from a hi-res Sony sensor to real glass lens, to metal lens housing, to a capacitor instead of a battery, high bitrate (no artefacts), etc, etc ...

As you said - it really does look built-in, and due to its shape is also perfectly suited to RHD cars (the guy who developed it is an Australian chap, now based in China, so he understands the frustration of having to fit a dashcam to the left of the rear view mirror). There were a few 'testing the water' models, including different form factor SG and Novatec, before the current SG came out.

I'm in the middle of fighting a claim against me where a gentleman decided to reverse hard into me and is claiming I drove into the back of him.

Thankfully, two witnesses are on my side but I ordered a dash cam the moment I got home afterwards. The amount of hassle involved is stupid, then theres always worrying about whether either of the witnesses will decide giving a statement is too much effort.

Better safe than sorry really

I had a dash cam in my Merc when I had an accident in the mother's Ka, which didn't have a cam fitted. Thankfully, we had enough witnesses to prove the other driver was at fault, but dash cam footage would have sealed their fate.

Both vehicles now have dash cams. There are too many loopy drivers these days, whether they are doing it on purpose, or just their standard of driving is diabolical (how many times do we curse those that don't know how to use an indicator).

Like the sentiment of many, I'd rather be prepared and not need it, than need it and not have it.

It seems that Nextbase 402g is popular new model these days. I'm thinking of buying one myself but would like to hear from some members if they have any experience with this model.
