Hi I recently purchased C220 CDI sport (06) and would like to add daytime running lights (DRL's) to them, the lights I purchase basically had two wires a positive and negative and it seems sellers advertise you to just wire them up to the headlights, after a bit of further reading there is more to this than meets the eye, so in other words your DRL's are fine in the day but as soon as you turn on the headlights they must switch off. So I bought a DRL module that says it will do this, all you have to do is wire into a negative, which I have done and wire into an ignition live which I have done, on a third wire it says to wire this into the low beam + which I thought I had done but the DRL's are still staying on when headlights are switched on, so this is the bit I am confused on is have I wired it right.I connected to the back of the drivers side headlight cluster or o/s headlight which has a 5 pin connection also marked 1 - 5. 1 is a black wire with green stripe, 2 is brown, 3 is white, 4 is yellow and 5 is grey with a red stripe. I have wired into the grey red stripe wire pin 5. I used a circuit tester to check a live feed and this was the only pin that lit up tester on side and headlights so came to the conclusion this was the low beam positive connection. Am I right or is there more to this or have I done something completely wrong, obviously something is not right as DRL's do not switch off when headlights are turned on. Should I have wired into back of switch on dashboard ? all help greatly appreciated

HI welcome to the forum :thumb:someone on the forum will answer your question i cant i`afraid enjoy your car

So after a little thinking I am now convinced I should wire the possitive low beam into the back of the light switch on dash and not the back of the headlight, so does anyone know how to remove the switch from the dash, I can see I have to open drivers door and remove the side panel which gives me access to the switch and fuses, there looks like a metal retaining clip that should be squeezed in, and the switch unit does then move slightly, there is also a clip the other side but as I squeeze this also the switch does not want to move out so does anyone know if there is something else I should be doing to help get the switch unit out, also how will I know what wire is the possitive low beam wire, can the switch be taken apart to check the contacts to see what gets a current on the main headlight switch, this cluster is also part of the mirror adjustmest so there are quite a few wires attached.

Of all the mods to do to a car, DRL's would not even be on my list! A ridiculous waste of time with no real point at all.
I have also seen quite a few cars (mostly Audi's AFAIK) where the DRL's DON'T switch off with dipped beam although legally they are mean't too!
Good luck with your fitment anyway.

Grey/red is the (offside) sidelight live.

If your device is working correctly, the DRLs should dim/turn off when this is live.

Do you have a link to the device?

If you read the statistics on accidents, they are vastly reduced on illuminated vehicles, most countries have now adopted it as standard on all new vehicles with the rule introduced to uk vehicles for 2011,not sure how you deduce its a waste of time, if your DRL's dont switch off when headlights are on they have to dim which is why you may see both sets on. An example of a completely wasted mod is changing your exhaust system from producing no noise to waking up the whole street in a 1 litre engine making out its a 6 litre vehicle.

you are wasting your time, you can just switch on DRL on a star! No modules needed.

You may even be able to do it off the settings using the buttons on steering wheel.
