DDR memory?

As far as I know the memory will just downrate its speed to what ever the bus dictates. Problems tend to occur if the memory in each bank is of different speed.

Faster DDR2 DIMMs are compatible with slower DDR2 DIMMs; however, the faster module runs at the slower module's speed. Using slower DDR2 memory in a system capable of higher speeds results in the bus running at the speed of the slowest memory in use.

Cool ...

Thanks again Graeme !

I'll get them ordered .... how difficult is it to fit ? just turn it off and pop the old ones out and bung the new ones in ?

You will probably find specific instructions in the manual that came with the computer. heres a pic to help-- Memory has a gold plated an edge connector-just like the video, sound etc boards you put in the PCI slots ---only smaller. They usually have a detent(slot) to stop you putting them in back to front. This is a picture of the memory slots of a Dell portable 2 in all. first [A]you slide the memory into the slot at an angle of 45 degrees you may have to push quite firmly to do this along the length of the card to seat it properly. then rotate the card to lie flat like the other card shown. at this point the 2 clips [C]will engage to hold the memory firmly in place. when you remove the old memory you will have to "spring back" these clips[C] to free the old memory. MAKE SURE WHEN YOU DO THIS YOU DONT HAVE ANY STATIC ELECTRICAL CHARGE ON YOU ( manmade fibres rubbing against each other and cotton, wool can generate quite a charge so dont take off a sweater for example while doing this) BEST WAY TO ENSURE THIS IS TO TOUCH A GROUND WITH YOUR HANDS AT THE START. KITCHEN TAP IS A GOOD ONE good luck!

Apparently i have memory by two different manufacturers in my slots , one is Samsung , one is Infineon .... both 256MB each ...

Actually Samsung and Infineon are the same company. Just to add to the confusion :)

What matters most for running dual-channel is that the data returned by the SPD probe (shown in the table at the bottom of the CPU-Z screen) is the same.

This is getting too complicated now ....

I'm a simple guy ....

Will it work on not ? ;)

Well, I upgraded with 2 x 512mb cards and left the 256 in as well, what a difference. Loads up now in a fraction of the time and just all round generally much quicker. I could have put 4 x 1Gb cards in, I wonder how much quicker that would have been:rolleyes: My home PC, unfortunately can only run 1Gb which it already has.

Howard your Amilo Pro will take a maximum of 2 x 1GB DDR2 SO-DIMMs.

See pp 58-60 of the manual on how to replace them

Thanks !!

Didn't realise i was meant to read that before putting it in the garage :o

To make use of 4Gb, you would need Windows XP64 or Vista 64. The "normal" 32 bit version only recognises up to 3 Gb max. I think I'm right in saying that the 3Gb figure includes any memory in your graphics card.

You need some seriously memory intensive programs to justify considering installing more than 2Gb.
