De-chroming my E63, how far to go?

...then did the back chrome panel and not so sure if I like it being black? It sort of stands out a bit too much? What ya think? Maybe with black badges it might look better?
Agreed. Either fit black badges, or put it back to chrome.

Yup I think that's right, i'm just looking about on ebay for some gloss black badges, found the E63 and Biturbo but not found a gloss black AMG one yet!!

Just had a play with the front as well, quite happy with the result.... (damn this is addictive!!!!)

Looks good. Want to do mine?

If you look at the new night pack - the roof rails are also black. Looks nice. Judge for yourself

I'd leave the grill, and probably de-badge, not a fan of the black badges tbh - but that's a personal preference of course...

As to the strip on the boot, looks odd

Just your roof rails and wing mirrors to do :) I have to get mine booked in to have the roof rails done, involves removing the headliner and removing them completely for a the job to be done properly

Indeed roof rails are a bugger, I did an Audi S4 ones black when doing a complete colour change. Bugger to take off, I remember dropping a bolt into the headlining!! I might have a look into it and see if the mercs are any easier....

I'm loving the black on chrome trims. I've wrapped quite a few bits before in 3m carbon, including my kwak 636, how hard is it to do, bearing in mind I have fat fingers?

Well i've just ordered some additional vinyl so will carry on when it arrives in the morning!

If anyone wants their windows de-chroming feel free to PM me! (I am a signwriter by trade!)

Which vinyl have you used. Is it a gloss black, satin or matte?

Agree with others about the boot handle. Definitely looks better in chrome.

I used gloss black 3M 1080 series. I find all satins / matt vinyls (unless they are metallic satin/matt) are prone to scratching so avoid at all costs!

Jasons69 - 3M carbon is a good starter (I wrapped a 350Z entirely in that stuff!), unfortunately normal colour vinyls are a lot thinner so a little tricker to install. Prep is more important than anything and the bodywork underneath makes a massive difference (my Smart Car's body I have just wrapped had average condition paint and you can still see the imperfections up close).

I've replaced all the handles and moulidng strips on my E55 with their 'classic' variants that don't have any chrome. I also removed all the badges and the boot lid star. So to answer your question of how far you should go, I'd say all the way.

Hi Mate, looks great!

I'm in the process of finding my next car and one of the cars I'm looking at is the E63 (same shape as yours) one of the things I want is the Night Pack but it's hard to find one with it and also all the other bits I want.

But seeing what you've done gives me the option of getting one and wrapping the trim parts as you've done.

stupid question but what did you do to the front? From the pics I can't make out what's changed?

With the front I have wrapped the middle part of the lower bumper (at the bottom) in black and also the long wide part of the lower mouth (was originally silver). The only black parts on the bumper are the side and upper parts of the mouth sections....
