Went to use my 05 E Class W211 today and battery absolutely dead. Not even enough power to open the doors. Used car yesterday and everything fine, new Merc battery fitted 7 months ago. Any clues as to why the battery is dead, tried charging but charger showing battery fault. All very strange

Hello and welcome to the forum,

When batteries are totally depleated they will not re-recharge and need to be disposed of at your local council dump.

Could you have left lights on all night??

YOur going to have to try a new battery, though you may wish to take the old one to where you brought it from first.

Simon

No there were no lights left on. I'm taking the battery back to Merc dealer where I bought it from. Just can't understand why everything was fine then nothing.
Thanks Simon

Also, why did you need to buy a new battery 7mths ago? try using a different charger.

The battery was on it's way out, 5 years old and the car isn't used a lot

Just had a call from the dealer, after "24 hours of testing" the battery is indeed dead and US so I'm off to pick a new one up

Thanks for your posts lads

Get them to check your second battery for the "comforts" whilst you are there and they should also check alternator output.

Hi John, The second battery was replaced in November and I've got the car booked inti to a very good auto electrician on Thursday to check the alternator and also for any other leakage or problem

Mick

Could be just a duff replacement battery but there was an update a while back for the Battery Control software in relation to E-Class built from January 2002 to January 2005. You might want to check that has actually been done.

Also not unknown for the battery control units to become defective with unhappy results.

Thanks Satch, I'll get them to check that too
