Dealer mark up

having struggled to sell my esprit estate privately, gave it to an independant dealer on a sale or return basis, he'll give me £4800 and keep whatever he makes above that.
Drove past it this morning and its on the forecourt at £6850 Fair play to him if he gets it, overheads an all, but its still some mark up don't you think, and they say theres no money in 2nd hand cars.

2K to 3K seems to be the mark up even on the lower priced cars, this is I imagine to cover warranty, a quick service should it need it, and valeting etc. So in effect they do you on trade in and the new car you buy. If the deals were better would you buy more, I would.
