Decision time for my ML

Personally thing you could have got £2k more trade in. ;)

Sounds like a good result - well done.

We're probably off looking at MLs tomorrow...

Not at all, Rob. I love my ML and I will keep fond memories of it. I just hope that the E will be as good an experience.

BTW. I viewed the new ML but I must admit that I was very unimpressed by the look of it. The interior is stunning, but the bodywork lacks character I thought.

Cheers

gIzzE, I kept thinking about you when dealing with the salesman. At some point I even felt slightly guilty: How am I going to explain to gIzzE that I got less than I should have?

You will really need to give mer your name one day...

Alex

My name is Guy, Guy Daimler Benz. ;)

Sounds like you're happy with the deal.
I just sold my X1 for a grand less than I know it was worth, but it was an easy sale and that was worth a grand.

You do what you feel you're happy with at the time, that is all that matters.

Well done, Alex - glad you found a solution you're happy with.

Would be interested to know more about your E, since I'm after one too. Did you get one of the special-offer - and apparently scarce - SE Execs, or is it a regular catalogue model? Naturally, my nose is twitching to know more about the deal as well, but that's for you to decide how much you want to tell.

We went looking at MLs today albeit briefly. New ML is nice on the inside, but I still think it looks a little awkward on the outside compared to the W164 or even the W163. Maybe it will grow on me.

I was surprised that the ML250 in te showroom was almost £52k with the options, mainly metallic, COMAND, and DAB. Nice but got me thinking we could get a Cayenne V8 for a few thousand more...

The new ML is great inside, but does absolutely nothing for me exterior wise.

Dull as ditchwater.

^ I do wonder if that engine in an ML is enough...

?

Me too. A salesman was singing it's praises, and to be fair it's 20% more than our current ML has, but it just doesn't seem right. Maybe I'm just a laggard, and I'll adjust to the modern world in my own time. :)

The front isn't so bad, but the sides and rear are, err, more aesthetically challenged. Probably not helped by the previous ML being very well sorted from a styling point of view.

I just don't like it at all.

It seems like a step backward design wise to me.

The Swiss sales guy we had a chat with at the Geneva show reckons on over 40mpg to 45mpg out of the 250.

For a big car fixed 4wd that will be pretty good. It just seems (looks) to big and heavy for the engine?

I agree though almost all cars now are down sizing the engines, fitting little turbos or the like.

It will grow on me I guess. For over 50K though you almost seem cheated getting a 2.2L 4 cylinder...

I really struggled to get my head round an 2 litre diesel Audi A6 avant at £46,000 in the showroom the other day.

Cars are getting very expensive, I get that, but if spending £50k you may as well spend £54k and get the 3 lire V6 instead imho.

Also residuals, I was given a residual of £9k on an E220cdi after 48 months, however the E350cdi was giving £15k after 48 months.
Suddenly make the £3k purchase price premium for the 3 litre (by the time you have specced them the same) look like excellent value.

Having a cofffee so went on the Merc website and clicked on ML350

Every option and ended at £73,000

Whats Active curve? £3250.

It doesn't seem right spending 50K on a 2.2 that's the same engine in say a C220, or the A6 2.0 the same as in an A3...

Given your figures above the bigger engine is a far better 'buy' overall?

The lease deal I could have gone for on the E220Cdi SE S212 estate however at £325 a month did sound very tempting...

Just tidying up our ML which has served us very well for the past three years but is now going back to MB for auctioning off.

New E220 SE Exec estate with panoramic sunroof turning up on Friday as replacement, hope it will be a worthy successor :)

Need to plan a nice road trip now to break it in!

Matt

^ report back on MPG

That would be my choice if buying new, Silver with Pano roof :)

Thanks Rob.

Yes it is the E-estate SE Executive. It looks great and it is packed with things which you would only find on the Avantguade trim with additional options. Full COMMAND is included. For the details, please look at your PM ;)

Commenting on the ML, I must say that I was very unimpressed by the look of it...

Cheers

Sales chap said the ML250 was good for 49mpg

Also 165 g/km - if it was less than 160 g/km then my ears would ***** up again, as I could declare it as a company car (we have a policy of 160 max).

I have to agree. I'm sure the new ML will be a lovely car, but what a price we're being asked to pay for the MB badge! There are plenty of very good two-litre 4x4s out there for much, much less...maybe not as well fitted-out but pretty close...

Been playing with Porsche configurator and a Cayenne Diesel with lots of the options we want comes in at the same £51k. That includes a V6 engine. I wonder when the Audi twin turbo V6 will make its way into the Cayenne...
