DI Vessels - do they really work?

The only downside is they don't last too long if you have very hard water (as we do in the East Midlands).
Any idea how many washes you managed before you started to get spotting again?

(need to plan when to buy more resin...)

I plan to use mine as a final rinse only - we have very soft water here as well.

Based upon what I've read and the above, I'm expecting c12 months from my 11 litre unit (when I get it).

Just ordered the 11.4L version filled with the 115 resin (higher spec), to be delivered Monday.

Me too :thumb: I will report back with the results :thumb:

I also bought a test meter to make sure it is doing what it says!

Nice one, thanks.:thumb: My test meter is a bit more rudimentary…………sunny day, wash and rinse, stand back and wait. If you hear muffled expletives, you'll know it wasn't successful.

Didn't think about getting a meter ; did you order from the same place?

Yeah for the sake of £17 it seemed like a good idea. Watched a few YouTube vids last night and they said when the readings reach about 10ppm its time to change the resin so given the costs of the resin the meter seemed like a good extra to have.

I don't think I could stand the pain :(

Search Amazon for the HM Digital TDS-4 - Best price I could find was £14.70 delivered :thumb:

Thanks, guys.:thumb:
 For not thinking of a tester. I've ordered one now, hopefully should prevent an instance of :wallbash: &

I bought one of the Raceglaze DI vessels about a month ago after I'd had my black E63 detailed.

I live in a hard water area and my drive (where I wash the car) is in direct sun from early morning until around 5pm at this time of year. Over the years I've got into the habit of only washing a car either if it's overcast or very late in the afternoon as it otherwise gets significant water spots on it before I can actually get to drying it off!

Since getting the DI vessel I've washed and rinsed the car in direct sunlight and it doesn't get a mark on it. I haven't had the balls to just let it dry completely naturally, preferring to use a drying towel, but I reckon I could get away with it if I did.

All in all, it's been a car wash game changer for me and my only regret is that I didn't get one sooner.
I too have the Raceglaze version. It works well in dull conditions (yes you can let the car dry completely naturally) but not in bright sunshine.

That's how I use mine, just for final rinse. I find the best way to do this is with an open hose. That way most of the water runs off the vertical surface, making drying time quicker.

I have pressure washer on one tap and DI vessel plus hose on another tap to make this as easy as possible. Pressure washer used for initial rinse and the rinsing as I wash, and then open hose for final rinse.

I too have the Raceglaze version. It works well in dull conditions (yes you can let the car dry completely naturally) but not in bright sunshine.

I tried this out the other day, and it was perfectly ok letting it dry in direct sunshine. Just remember that it's exactly the same scenario when you have a summer shower, cloud cover passes, sun comes out and your car dries in direct sunlight.

Well, my TDS meter was delivered yesterday and I've so far learnt that my tap water reads around 238, water from my Brita jug filter (cartridge on it's fourth week) is around 136, and from my RaceGlaze filter it's a big fat zero!

I washed my fathers Citroen yesterday after it had been left parked under a sap dropping tree for a week. Rinsed off with pure water in blazing sunshine and dried spotless. So for those who are interested it does work.

OK so it arrived today, an 11l tank with resin. So I have just washed the car and rinsed with the DI water via the tank testing it first to make sure it was 0ppm.

It's now in the garage so I will report back in the morning.... fingers crossed for no streaks.

Well stone me, it actually works :D

Car looks perfect this morning, no streaks whatsoever. Looks as good as if I had spent an hour drying it off by hand yet not only have I saved the time, but I have not had to rub a cloth all over my paintwork as no matter how clean and soft it is there is the chance it will scratch the paintwork at some point.

I am truly amazed as really did not think it would work as well as this!

Well chuffed I am :thumb:

Just washed mine this morning in the blazing sun. Good test. Tested filter 000ppm. Spots very very few. Windscreen awesome. Wish I had bought one of these years ago. Also after having Gtechniq applied the bugs washed off as though they were dust.

Are DI vessels similar to RO filters?

Do you get any saline/brine that goes to waste?

(would google myself, but am stuck behind a very restrictive web proxy)

Not as such, but every so often you will need to throw away the old resin from the tank and replace with new. How often depends on your water hardness and how often you use it and for how long, but I expect to see 12 months out of my 11 litre vessel.

They pass the water through a resin bed which traps the ionised solids. You eventually end up with a few kilo's of waste resin beads.

Great stuff - that's the final push I needed. Is there a link to your supplier please?
