At what mileage should i have my fuel injectors serviced ?

I have been wondering the same thing. I don't get great fuel economy, the Golf TDi we have just bought does 55-60mpg all the time no matter how you drive it, so it has made me think more about mine.

Seeing as my car will be parked up for a while I was thinking about taking out the injectors and getting them reconditioned.

Unless the car is smokey the injectors don't need attention. A diesel will create clouds of smoke if an injector is duff.

Always run a good dose of injector cleaner through the fuel system before touching the injectors.

If you remove the injectors yourself, many diesel centres will test the injector spray FOC.

Jimmy you have the same problem I had, with air leaking into the fuel line at the pre filter. As a test have the engine idleing and pull the accelerator pot full on. As the pump draws more fuel you may see a rush of air bubbles.
If you have air change the pipes and pre-filter. If this doesn't fix it bypass the pre-filter with fuel hose.
You will feel the engine is more responsive and has more torque and power, as the timing now doesn't become retarded due to the air ingress. You should also have less smoke for the same reason.

I am now at this stage and will try a screw in fitting in the filter head, if that doesn't fix it the filter head is porus. A new head and filter is £20 so not a problem.

I also have this problem on my 1997 E300d. Where do I get the clear plastic pipe from ?

They're only a couple of pounds from the dealer complete with fittings.
