Why would anyone ban DM?
I am puzzled about it?
The reasons rest with the moderation team, although IMHO they are facetious ones and an over reaction to a harmless bit of banter.

Perhaps they appreciate the qualities and knowledge of the person in question, of which I have no doubt that they are a great asset to the forum.

Yep. I have a tour to plan for tomorrow. Hopefully it will go smoothly and I won't be posting in the technical thread with issues I have had with my car and its on a flat bed.
CD's to pick out, maps to consult, weather forecast to read. Cameras to charge up, tyre pressures to check....

This is why I am asking? DM as always been a decent person to me and also when I read his post. Then this is why I am puzzled.

I've nothing against him either, but the forum rules apply to everyone. He breached them three times, and got a 7-day ban as a result.

Allegedly, he was offensive to other forum members, either publicly on the forum or through PM. Apparently, the offended members complained to the site Admins. Dieselman's defence was that he has been on the receiving end of similar offensive language and nothing has been done about it. That is my understanding of the events, at any rate.
Many forum members say he has been very helpful to them (not surprising with 20k+ posts). Others - mainly C63 AMG owners - say he was abusive.
Personally, I was neither helped not offended by Diseleman so can not make any comment - other to reiterate what has already been said by MOCAŠ above.

I will not comment on the rights and wrongs of the ban.
Internet Forums can be strange places sometimes.
BUT
I have valued Will's extensive knowledge and advice on technical matters.
Advice that has been freely and generously given over a number of years.
Will has helped me on numerous occasions.
This Forum would be much poorer without him.
