Diesel Smell

Car is a w203 2005 c200 cdi OM646 engine i noticed the other day i can smell diesel inside the car,but i cant see any leaks under car no puddles or drips also no leaks under bonnet, but i have not checked the front of engine as of yet any ideas?

With the engine running listen for "chuffing" near the fuel injectors

i did look there and i couldnt see any wetness around injectors but thx for reply

i checked under bonnet today there was fuel at bottom of number 4 injector but i noticed no:4 return hose is wet

Plenty on line about this 'Black Death' . It appears you might have found it early and after repair will probably suffer no ill effect , possibly just a loose high pressure fuel line.

i think it's the number 4 injector return pipe is leaking pete

anybody know the ID of the return pipe? is it 3mm?

I had to get a new return fuel assembly for my OM651 They are known to become brittle and fail. If I were you I'd fit a whole brand new replacement.

I think it's 3.7mm but the last pipe I used was just generic leak off diesel pipe and had no issues.

yes but it's £170 from merc! for a piece of rubber!

where did you get your leak off pipe from? halfords do 3mm diesel pipe

all sorted now i took number 4 pipe off cut 3 inches off replaced the pipe and no more leaks saving myself £240

Most motor factors keep it in stock or any bosch diesel centre.
